A change for the visitors at the break.

    Kristie Mewis replaces Hawa Cissoko.

  2. 'For all the nice play Brighton didn't carve out clear opportunities'published at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on Sky Sports

The big concern for Brighton will be that for all their nice play, did they really carve out many clear cut chances? One perhaps two at most.

If you play in that style you really do need to carve out at least three or four big chances in a game, and take one.

There will be plenty of positives to take but their naivety at times at the start of the second half, when Liverpool pressed them, did lead to the Liverpool winner.

Tottenham v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

    • Tottenham are aiming to record a league double over Aston Villa for the first time in the WSL following a 4-2 away win earlier this season.
    • Aston Villa have scored in all seven of their meetings with Tottenham in the Women’s Super League (11 goals) and recorded a clean sheet in two of their three wins against Spurs in the competition (D1 L3).
    • After losing each of their opening five WSL games this season whilst conceding 16 goals in the process, Aston Villa have since lost just three matches across their last eight outings (W4 D1).
    • Tottenham Hotspur have kept just one clean sheet across their last ten home WSL games, conceding two or more goals in five of those matches.
    • Tottenham Hotspur’s Martha Thomas has scored four goals across seven WSL games against Aston Villa, with her three for Spurs coming as a hat-trick in the reverse fixture this season back in October 2023.
    • As an Aston Villa player, Rachel Daly has scored four goals in three games against Tottenham. Across her career, only against Reading (6) and Manchester United (5) does she have more versus an opponent.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says his side are ready to show their attacking prowess again having made adjustments to their defensive play.

“When you come to a club as a new coach with a new identity, you have to start with what that identity is and that’s attacking football,” Vilahamn said.

“Since the 7-0 and 4-0 losses [against the Manchester City and Manchester United respectively], we have focused a little bit more on how we want to defend together, showing that we can win in different ways.

"Now, we are at a point where we want to focus on attacking football again and keep the defence. Hopefully, we can take steps against Aston Villa."

    Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool secure their first WSL win of 2024. It wasn't pretty but they move to within two points of Manchester United in fourth.

Ceri Holland was the matchwinner after an error from Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley but was sent off late on.

Liverpool keep the ball in the corner to take more time out of this game. They're nearly there now.

  8. 'Disappointing for Holland but it was a late challenge'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

    Courtney Sweetman-Kirk
Current Sheffield United and former Liverpool forward on Sky Sports

It is clever from Julia Zigiotti. She knows the challenge is coming and moves the ball so quickly, meaning Ceri Holland arrives too late.

It is disappointing for Holland who has had a good game, scored the goal for Liverpool, but she was late and it was a second yellow.

Decent whip on the shot from Poppy Pattinson but it is too close to Rachael Laws and the Liverpool keeper can hold onto it and kill a few more seconds.

    Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

There will be six added minutes and Liverpool should have this game wrapped up!

Leanne Kiernan puts in a superb ball from the left, Emma Koivisto does well to get to it at the far post but once she does, she has to score.

Instead, the full-back stabs the bouncing ball over the bar. Big, big chance.

  13. INJURY TIMEpublished at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

There will be two minutes added on at Walton Hall Park.

West Ham waste a corner, with the ball dribbling out of play before it even reaches the near post.

  14. Postpublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

Super ball in from Julia Olme from a corner, Rachael Laws flaps at it but Brighton aren't able to put it in as the ball flashes across the face of goal.

Another corner is cleared but with a little more than three minutes left of the 90, Liverpool are camped inside their own half.

    Almost!

Riko Ueki turns Elise Stenevik and then fizzes an effort from just inside the area inches wide of the target.

Julia Olme tries her luck from distance but there is not enough power behind the shot to trouble Rachael Laws in the Liverpool goal.

  17. Postpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

Having been on the back foot since the goal, Liverpool have a rare attack and Sofie Lundgaard is straight into the action.

She wants a penalty after being flattened by Maria Thorisdottir.

In fairness, she also sent the Brighton defender tumbling. No penalty.

  18. Postpublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

It feels like Everton go backwards far too often when they are in possession of the ball.

A good line-splitting pass is undone by a pass that goes 20 yards backwards in the last attempt.

If Brian Sorensen wants that first home win in this game they may have to show a bit more ambition at times.
