Man City v Man Utd (15:30 GMT)

The Manchester derby is one of the iconic fixtures in English football, but with treble chasing City the heavy favourites, just how tough of an afternoon can United expect as they target a top four finish? Can United knock City off their perch? And just how do you stop Erling Haaland?

On the latest episode of The Football News Show, Ben Croucher is joined in the studio by former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown who explains what it’s like to play in a Manchester derby and Jamie Jackson, Manchester football correspondent for the Guardian and Observer, who says he doesn’t think Erik ten Hag will be under increased pressure if they lose, but he’s needs to guide the side to a top four finish to keep him job beyond the summer.

  2. 'Delighted' with the three pointspublished at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    FT: Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth's Lewis Cook, speaking to Sky Sports after the game: "We got the win [previously to Burnley] and it bounced us up the league a bit - hopefully this can be the same.

"The three points haven't come recently but we are delighted with it today and hopefully it can continue."

On the first half: "I think we were all disappointed with how we were playing, but we were not losing so we had the game to take it to them.

"We changed a few things at half-time and tried to be more aggressive.

"We have a lot of attacking options and we see it week-in and week-out at the top - we have the depth."

On winning: "It is massive. We went on a run in the early part of the season and we want to replicate that, the past month has not been the best."

  3. 'Every close decision seems to go against us'published at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    FT: Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth

    Burnley

Burnley's Josh Cullen: "We can be pleased with a lot of the parts of our game but the overriding emotion is bitterly disappointed we haven't got anything to show for it.

"We started the game really well, we were on top and creating chances but one chance for them and you get punished. We are learning the hard way.

"After last week we had to show a bit of fight and spirit today. I think we did that. The desire and spirt was there.

"Every decision that has been a close one this season seems to go against us.

"We won't stop fighting until the day is done and there's still enough points left to get us out of this situation."

  4. 'At the start it's like you're playing with your idols'published at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Man City v Man Utd (15:30 GMT)

Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb says his breakthrough into the first-team this season "has been crazy" and likened it "to playing with your idols."

The 20-year-old Norway international has made 16 appearances for this City this term, with his last-minute Premier League winner at Newcastle one of two goals he has scored for Pep Guardiola's side.

"I came here at 16 and the dream was to become a part of the manager’s team and the first team at this club," he told BBC Sport. "I got that opportunity at the start of the season but I didn’t know what to expect in terms of opportunities, but I’m very happy with the last six months.

"I was quite nervous [on debut] but then again the team was winning and playing good football. Playing with these players, against top opposition, they make it so easy.

"They’ve brought me in and helped me settle. It gives you confidence on the pitch being with nice people."

Football analyst on BBC Radio 5 Live

Man Utd are very poor in their style, they are all over the place.

For long balls in the Premier League Manchester United are ranked seventh behind the likes of Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Brentford - the accuracy is poor. United’s identity is to win the ball back and look over the top for pace.

You cannot see anything, but a Man City win. Marcus Rashford is a player in the headlines and he will want to make an impact in this game.

Man Utd need to sit deep and counter-attack. They also need take a leaf out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's book who had a very good record at the Etihad.

  6. Pick of the statspublished at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Man City v Man Utd (15:30 BST)

    • No fixture in Premier League history has seen more away wins.
    • Manchester City have won four of their past five Premier League meetings with Manchester United, as many as their previous 13 beforehand.
    • Manchester United have lost their visit to the Etihad Stadium in the past two Premier League seasons, shipping 10 goals in the process (4-1 in 2021-22, 6-3 in 2022-23). The Red Devils last had a longer run of successive away league defeats to rivals Manchester City from August 1952 to September 1955 (four in a row).
    • Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has won eight of his 15 Premier League meetings with Manchester United. Only Arsène Wenger (12) has ever won more against them in the competition, while Guardiola is the only manager to win at least half of his meetings with the Red Devils (minimum of 10 meetings).
    • Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes could make his 150th Premier League appearance in this match. Though the Portuguese has created more chances than any other player in the competition this term (74), his rate of a goal or assist every 281 minutes this term is his lowest in any of his five campaigns.

    Theo Walcott
Former Arsenal and Southampton forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

We expect Manchester United to be right up there and the transition is taking a lot longer than planned, I don’t think the fans will want to wait any longer now - they will be getting sick of the Man City and Liverpool chat.

Only the manager can answer the questions, but maybe this new ownership is going to push Man Utd on.

Former City midfielder Michael Brown tells The Football News Show just why Haaland is so effective in front of goal and how United can keep him quiet.

Bournemouth are safe now. That is a big result, they needed that.

It's a first win in eight and coming to Turf Moor they probably thought it would be harder than it was, Burnley are not good enough to stay up this season.

Man City v Man Utd (15:30 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
    Former Manchester City defender

When we talk the old school style, like defensively, this is as bad as Manchester City have been.

But they're three goals worse off than Arsenal, who say they're having a great offensive season, to put it back into that context, and it's super competitive.

As a defender I just want to be on the field where I know my team is capable of scoring and going out and winning the game as opposed to thinking 'let's just hold on so you can get a clean sheet'.

  15. 'Focus on tactics and not emotions'published at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says his side need to focus on tactics and not emotions in today's derby with Manchester United.

City, who won 3-0 at Old Trafford in October, are 15 points above United.

Both sides are in good form, with second-placed City unbeaten in 18 and United only losing once in 2024.

"What I learn from my experience in these types of games is to be more calm, relax, don't talk about many things," Guardiola said.

"Just focus on tactics and what you have to do to beat them, not about emotions - because emotions will be there, without doubt."
