Burnley have started well, they are passing the ball well.

But, they started well against Palace [last week] then went down to 10 men and that killed the game.

  2. Postpublished at 5 mins

Burnley are definitely up for this! They go closer now as Wilson Odobert gets a shot on target, a low effort inside the box but he puts it too close to Neto.

  3. Postpublished at 3 mins

Despite that not ideal start for Dara O'Shea, his team is making a positive impression at the other end of the pitch early doors as Maxime Esteve gets forward but his low drive is blocked.

    Stupid decision from Dara O'Shea.

He has put himself under-pressure, unbelievable.

    Burnley v Bournemouth (13:00 GMT)

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I don't think anything will work for Burnley, they are struggling and are not good enough.

Vincent Kompany made too many changes in the summer, yes you do have to spend but you have to do it in the right way. It takes time to adjust in the Premier League but they have struggled.

Burnley have a plan A and not a B when things don't work.

Only Brentford (12) have dropped more points from winning positions in Premier League home games this season than Burnley (11).

Meanwhile, only Brentford again (14) have dropped more such points in away games this term than Bournemouth (12).

A big test for keeper James Trafford this afternoon with some fans calling for the Burnley keeper to be dropped after a poor run of form.

It was his pass that led to Josh Brownhill being shown the red card at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Kosovo keeper Arijanet Muric has played in the cup games this season but Clarets boss Vincent Kompany has kept faith with Trafford in the Premier League.

Burnley have conceded 58 times in 26 matches and have managed just two clean sheets in the top flight.

    • Burnley have lost 10 of their 13 Premier League home games this season – it is their joint-most home defeats they have ever suffered in a single league campaign (also 10 in 2018-19).
    • Burnley have conceded at least three goals in 11 of their 26 Premier League games this season, more than any other side and almost twice as many times as they did when they were relegated in 2021-22 (six). Only in 2009-10 (13) have they shipped three or more goals in more different games in a Premier League campaign.
    • Bournemouth were winless in their first nine Premier League games this season, then won seven of their next nine (D1 L1). They are now winless in their past seven.
    • Burnley have scored a league-high 28% of their Premier League goals from outside the box this season. However, they have also conceded a league-high total (12) and share (21%) of their goals from distance this term.
    • Twelve of Dominic Solanke’s 14 Premier League goals this season have either put Bournemouth in the lead (nine) or drawn them level in the match (three). It is the most such goals a player has scored this term.
    • No side has had more red cards in the Premier League this season than Burnley (five) – they had never previously had more than two players sent off in a single campaign before.

    Burnley v Bournemouth (13:00 GMT)

Dominic Solanke was an injury doubt before this game so it is a big boost for Bournemouth that he plays.

His 14 Premier League goals have been worth 10 points to Bournemouth this season – only Scott McTominay’s strikes have been more valuable for a side so far this term (12 points).

Twelve of his goals this season have either put Bournemouth in the lead (nine) or drawn them level in the match (three). It’s the most such goals a player has scored in the competition this term.

I cannot envision a game plan [from Manchester United] of how you stop City, they are always a step ahead - it is such a difficult match up.

I don’t know if it is a double-tactic to distract from the game, but if I was a Man Utd fan I don’t want Erik ten Hag talking about a TikTok account - you have work to do and it's a massive game this weekend.

I don’t know if he is trying to distract from the game, I would like ten Hag to own the press conference a bit more, and if City do win the game then at least go down fighting.

It was incredible in the week the understanding between Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne [6-2 victory against Luton].

Whether Man Utd watched that and said ‘right boss what is the answer’, I don’t think they can come up with one.

They have had a week to prepare and I don’t think they’ll come up with an answer.

Bournemouth boss Adoni Iraola, speaking to Sky Sports.

On Dominic Solanke starting: "He trained well yesterday and he took the decisions to be available for us - it is a huge boost."

On the opportunity to get three points: "I think both teams need to win and we are in different positions [in the league].

"It is difficult there is less games remaining, every point is valuable and we want to win especially after the Man City [loss] and Newcastle [draw], we played well but we didn't get much - we need the three points.

"We are in a good spot and football wise and we have players performing well but it's true defensively we have not been good the past games.

"Hopefully today we have the chances and score the goals."

  16. 'City will win, just a question of how many they score'published at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Man City v Man Utd (15:30 GMT)

Manchester United found a way of getting over the line against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

It was a really important win for their manager Erik ten Hag, but it was a scruffy one and it did not suggest that United are going to cause City many problems with Rasmus Hojlund out injured.

I watched Marcus Rashford lead their attack instead last weekend, against Fulham. I'd put Rashford in my Fantasy team and I was so disappointed - he barely had a kick.

This time, Ten Hag might try a tactic that has worked for United before against City, and go with split strikers, playing on the counter. It's probably a strength of theirs, playing on the break.

But United have got some key defenders out, as well as Hojlund, and how successful they are will depend on whether they can hang on in there during the long spells when City will have the ball.

City will win, I've got no doubt about that. It's just a question of how many will they score?

If it clicks for City, and Kevin de Bruyne has said he feels like he is getting better by the game, then I just think they could run away with it.

    Prediction: 6-1

  17. Early team newspublished at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

The Manchester derby kicks off at 15:30 GMT, but here's what we do know regarding team news.

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish is ruled out after injuring his groin in Tuesday's FA Cup win at Luton.

Josko Gvardiol is nearing a return from an ankle problem but this game may come too soon for him.

Manchester United manager Ten Hag does not expect any of his injured players to return in time for today's game.

Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane both completed Wednesday's win at Nottingham Forest despite fitness issues but are again expected to be available.

  18. 'Burnley have had it'published at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Burnley v Bournemouth (13:00 GMT)

You could label every game as 'must-win' for Burnley but that has been the case for weeks.

The reality is that they have had it. They are 11 points from safety with 12 games to go, and they have only won three times all season.

I said when I covered their game against Arsenal for 5 live a couple of weeks ago that they had to win half their games, or the equivalent, to stand a chance of staying up but then they got smashed by the Gunners and lost heavily at Palace too.

In his programme notes for the Arsenal game, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany wrote how 'we still believe' but you need results to back that up, and they have not managed to get them.

Playing out from the back seems to keep putting them in trouble - it led to Josh Brownhill being sent off against Palace - and although it is understandable to make mistakes, if you keep making the same ones every week then it becomes a problem.

Bournemouth are not in very good form either, and Dominic Solanke will be a huge miss if he is not fit to lead their attack, but I still cannot make a case for Burnley to beat them.

    Prediction: 1-1

They will be playing cricket on the pitch at the back of Turf Moor in six weeks time.

Will Burnley still be fighting or will they be down by then?

This has been a thoroughly miserable season for the Clarets, who start this game 11 points from safety in 19th.

At least the weather in Burnley is decent for this time of year.
