  4. West Ham's 'pretty good' transfer windowpublished at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

As January transfer windows go for West Ham, it has been pretty good.

The main highlight is the loan signing of England international Kalvin Phillips, who looked destined to pull on the famous claret and blue the moment it became obvious Declan Rice needed to leave West Ham to fulfil his immense potential. That was about three years ago. Now Phillips has finally arrived in east London, he provides some much-needed depth to a midfield that boasts some very impressive options for David Moyes.

Elsewhere, though, we are still short of real depth. The recent injury crisis only highlighted the lack of quality options afforded to Moyes outside of his main starting XI - most notably in attack. So it is no surprise rumours have us in the market for a left winger as the transfer window approaches its final days.

Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals could yet be on the way out, while former Celtic winger Jota and FC Nordsjaelland's Ibrahim Osman are looking the most likely to come in. We will probably only complete one of those, but it does appear to be the case that further strength in attack will be added before Thursday's deadline

I would like us to complete both, especially if Benrahma and Fornals do exit. Remember our run to the Europa League semi-finals a couple of years ago? We ran out of stream because of a lack of squad depth.

So now we need as many bodies as we can get as we look to do it all again in the second half of the season. It is a very big few days for the club as a result.

  5. Will Klopp exit spark player exodus at Liverpool?published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    BBC Sounds

The team react to the Jurgen Klopp news on this week’s Footballer’s Football podcast and discuss whether the German manager's departure from Liverpool at the end of the season will lead to a player exodus.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson said: “I think personally they’ll be dedicated to Liverpool and, regardless of who comes in, they will probably want to achieve things with that dressing room.

"A new manager comes in with different philosophies. You’re professional athletes so you just get on with it, get your head down and buy into what’s being asked of you.”

West Ham forward Michail Antonio added: "I feel like they’ll give the manager a chance. I don’t think everyone’s just going to head to the doors as soon as the manager leaves.”

For Liverpool, the best and worst deadline day signings happened on the same day. They signed Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in Jan 2011, breaking their own transfer record for both. One became a cult hero and the less said about the other the better.

  7. Incomings 'improbable' - Dychepublished at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Everton manager Sean Dyche says it is "improbable anything comes in" on deadline day.

He also says Mason Holgate could cut short his loan deal at Southampton and join Sheffield United instead.

"It is a very favourable deal for this football club," he said, adding there was nothing in rumours of Abdoulaye Doucoure joining a club in Saudi Arabia.

Nottingham Forest's new signing Giovanni Reyna has been speaking to the club's YouTube channel following his loan move from Borussia Dortmund.

"I’m really excited to be here. The club and the team are a good opportunity for me so I can’t wait to get started," the 21-year-old United States international said., external

"It’s the best league in the world, it’s the most entertaining the most watched. I’ve watched this league since I can remember. I’m so happy to get started with this team and I hope this team can win games and be successful.

"I like to be around the goal, around the danger area, creating assists, creating goals, creating opportunities for the team to score and be successful going forward. I pride myself on being able to do a bit of everything going forward."

  10. Villa refuse to entertain Ramsey interestpublished at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Aston Villa may have been strengthening their squad around the fringes but the club’s refusal to even entertain talk that Jacob Ramsey would leave is another pointer to their ambitions.

The 22-year-old midfielder is coveted by other clubs, with Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all admirers and all linked with moves before the transfer window closes.

Villa, as they did in a previous window when Arsenal were desperate to sign Douglas Luiz, made their position clear and insisted the England under-21 international was not for sale.

And that stance has not changed, with manager Unai Emery insisting Ramsey was a big part of his plans and that there was still much more to come from the local product, who is a big favourite with the Villa fanbase.

Villa’s shock home defeat to Newcastle, coupled with Spurs’ win at home to Brentford, has intensified the face for a spot in the Premier League’s top four and next season’s Champions League, so Emery will want to keep his own strongest resources – certainly not strengthen potential rivals.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was giving very little away earlier this week about whether his side will do any deadline day deals.

The Bees have been linked, external with Club Bruges winger Antonio Nusa.

Frank joked about being linked with 12 different players, saying: "We will do our very best to sign all 12 players and be very busy."

On a more serious note, he added: "We will try to see if we can sign one more."

  15. 'It is a bit distracting but you’ve just got to deal with it'published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    BBC Sounds

On this week’s Footballer’s Football podcast, West Ham forward Michail Antonio discussed how distracting the transfer window is when teams are still playing games as the deadline approaches.

He said: "You see a lot of rumours, but the manager doesn’t say anything to the players, the board doesn’t say anything to the players - you’re hearing it all on the internet.

"It is a bit distracting, but as a professional you’ve just got to deal with it. When the window does shut, you know who’s in, who’s gone and you just get back to business."

  16. Arsenal's squad 'looking slim and vulnerable'published at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    ArsenalImage source, .

Oli Price-Bates, The Fresh Arsenal podcast, external

Arsenal's reluctance to step into the market this month is understandable given the seeming lack of availability of their top targets, but the squad is looking slim and vulnerable before the business end of the season.

In defence, the reliance on Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White and William Saliba is clear following Jurrien Timber's extensive injury lay-off. Zinchenko is injury prone, White looks fatigued and we have seen Arsenal's level drop dramatically when Saliba gets injured.

A versatile full-back would be on my wishlist before the deadline, with Ferdi Kadioglu and Kyle Walker-Peters both players who could line up on either side and plug into Mikel Arteta's system.

In attack, there's a similar story of reliance.

Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have no natural alternative and the constant unavailability of Gabriel Jesus through the middle is holding this squad back.

The Gunners would really benefit from another top forward to rotate with those three, but the club probably need to cash in on out-of-favour Hale End duo Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah to fund a move.

With no incomings, does this squad have what it takes to go all the way in the Premier League and Europe?

For me, we remain a couple short.

Newcastle have managed to hold on to their key players during the transfer window and, speaking on this week’s Footballer’s Football podcast, striker Callum Wilson said: "I’m sure the manager and all the fans will be happy to see that door closed - keeping the squad together.

"There’s been a lot of rumours that we’ve not been able to add to it, which is common knowledge I think, but for us as a team, it’s important we hang on to everyone because we’re all going to be needed between now and the end of the season.”

Liverpool have confirmed Rhys Williams' loan spell at Port Vale has been cut short by injury.

The 22-year-old defender joined the League One side on 16 January, but he has now returned to Liverpool to undergo his rehabilitation.

Williams initially joined Aberdeen at the start of the season, but he suffered a pre-season injury and he was recalled after only one senior appearance.

Miss the old days where there would be constant rumours of seeing players at airports or train stations. FFP has ruined the transfer window fun for the clubs and fans alike. It's all about high spending for players not even worth that much gone the days where Torres joined Chelsea on deadline or Arshavin going to Arsenal.

  20. Man Utd's Hansen-Aaroen dealpublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

I mentioned earlier that Manchester United youngster Isak Hansen-Aaroen is set to join Werder Bremen.

It transpires United did not want the 19-year-old to go but it became obvious he was not willing to sign a contract extension on the terms offered.

With his deal due to expire in the summer, United decided it was better to go for a permanent sale, which will bring in a small fee with add-ons and a sell-on clause rather than keep negotiating on a contract that was not going to be signed.
