Championship play-off chasers West Brom are closing in on the Celtic winger Mikey Johnston.

Baggies boss Carlos Corberan has been keen to bring in a wide player during the current transfer window.

Johnston has been looking for increased playing time after spending last season on loan at Vitoria in Portugal.

The Republic of Ireland international has made nine appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season, but started only three times, scoring two goals.

Rico Henry to Brentford in 2016 for £1.5m from Walsall is the Bees best bit of Deadline Day business. The biggest mystery not so much how we got him so cheap but more how Gareth Southgate still hasn't called the pacy left back up for England

Aston Villa have signed England under-19s full-back Lino Sousa from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee.

Sousa will go straight out on loan for the remainder of the season to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

The 19-year-old joined the Gunners in January 2022 when he chose to leave West Bromwich Albion academy to sign a professional contract with the North London club.

Two years on, he is back on the move!

One that we initially reported on the first day of the transfer window has dragged out until the final hours.

Hull are now in advanced talks with Burnley over a loan deal for winger Anass Zaroury.

The Morocco international has been left frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities this season.

The Tigers are having some window, having already brought in Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool and Abdulkadir Omur - better known as the 'Turkish Messi'.

Sorry to see Pablo Fornals leave West Ham. He was the only Pellegrini signing who made a difference and became a favourite of the fans with his work rate and happy smile. However, he didn't seem to like the competition for a place, and his recent efforts haven't been so good. Adios Pablo.

Werder Bremen sign Isak Hansen-Aarøen from Manchester United

Manchester United youngster Isak Hansen-Aarøen has joined Werder Bremen on a permanent deal.

United were loathe to lose the 19-year-old to go but it became obvious he was not willing to sign a contract extension on the terms offered.

With his deal due to expire in the summer, United decided it was better to go for a permanent sale, which will bring in a small fee with add-ons and a sell-on clause rather than keep negotiating on a contract that was not going to be signed.

Michael and Emily are off to have their dinner so you're stuck with me (Emma Sanders) for the next few hours.

I don't know what's worse, the fact you're stuck with me, or the lack of transfer activity so far today.

Hopefully we can kick off the stint with a bang... Please.

Grimsby Town have signed midfielder Curtis Thompson from Cheltenham and defender Denver Hume from Portsmouth on free transfers.

Thompson, 30, has signed an 18-month deal with the Mariners.

Hume, 25, has joined until the end of the season following his release from Pompey.

Thompson began his career with Leicester and had spells at Notts County, Lincoln and Wycombe, amassing 282 appearances in all. He played 22 games for the Robins this season.

Hume began his professional career at Sunderland and made his debut in 2018.

He played 84 games and scored three goals for the Black Cats before moving to Portsmouth in January 2022. He made 31 appearances for the south coast club.

  10. Wolves v Sheff Utd game set to remain unchangedpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

It's rare for a fixture to be arranged for the benefit of match-going fans rather than TV viewers but it does appear as though Wolves' home game against Sheffield United on Sunday, 25 February will remain unchanged.

The match itself was moved from the Saturday and listed for a 13:30 GMT kick-off, to be followed by the EFL Cup final.

However, the EFL Cup final must now start at 15:00 GMT rather than 16:30 GMT as initially intended.

With Sky Sports covering both games, it appeared likely the kick-off time of the Wolves game would be changed.

However, it appears that won't be the case and the match at Molineux will remain as it is.

Evan @ 15.36, my issue with FFP is that it effectively blocks anyone rivalling the existing big clubs. Let's say a mid table club is bought by billionaires (all legal etc), it would take decades to build up the worldwide fan base needed to create turnover to allow big spending. However how can they get this fan base without success, i.e. buying players!

Newcastle United’s transfer deadline day has been, as expected, very quiet with the club not in a position to use their Saudi Arabian owners’ vast wealth to strengthen manager Eddie Howe’s squad.

Howe has admitted the club’s lack of activity has been shaped by ensuring they stay within profit and sustainability regulations which has meant even a loan deal for England midfield man Kalvin Phillips, a long-term target, proved beyond them as he ended up at West Ham United.

The Newcastle boss may have moved to add quality in the striking department after Alexander Isak’s injury at Aston Villa, coupled with Callum Wilson’s recent fitness problems, but once again this was not possible.

Instead, it has been a window where Newcastle had to ensure they retained the players they already had rather than bring in reinforcements for a renewed push at the top four places in the Premier League.

Kieran Trippier was a target for Bayern Munich while Miguel Almiron attracted interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabbab. Wilson was linked with a move to AC Milan.

Newcastle have kept that trio and tied teenager Lewis Miley down to a new contract, probably the biggest positive of a frustrating window for The Toon Army.

If a player had moved out then Howe may have had room for manoeuvre elsewhere but this has not materialised.

  13. Fornals heading to Spainpublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham have agreed a deal with Real Betis for Pablo Fornals, with the transfer set to be worth 8m euros.

Attacking midfielder Fornals is one of the most popular players at West Ham.

He came on as a substitute in last season’s Europa Conference League final victory against Fiorentina.

However, he has struggled to gain a regular starting spot this season following the arrival of Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse in the summer.

Although West Ham triggered a one-year option on Fornals’ contract in December, it was always likely they would let him leave if the right bid was received.

The 27-year-old has made 202 appearances since his arrival from Villarreal in 2019.

  14. Hull sign Turkey midfielder Omur from Trabzonsporpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Abdulkadir OmurImage source, Getty Images

Hull City have signed Turkey midfielder Abdulkadir Omur from Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Tigers, who count his compatriots Ozan Tufan and Bora Aydinlik among their squad.

Omur has scored 25 goals in 211 games for Trabzonspor, winning both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup with the club.

"The fans will love watching him," boss Liam Rosenior told the club website., external

"He's someone who can unlock the door, create and score goals, and has a great final pass and shot. He's an outstanding technical footballer who can go past players, has a low centre of gravity and works hard out of possession. I love his football personality."

Omur has been capped 12 times by Turkey and Hull have the option of triggering an extra year's extension on his deal.

Stockport have signed Lewis Cass on loan from Port Vale until the summer.

The 23-year-old reunites with boss Dave Challinor, who worked with Cass when they won promotion from the National League with Hartlepool United in 2021.

The right-back joined Vale permanently in the summer after two loan spells, helping them win promotion in 2022, and has played 20 times this season.

"Lewis is someone I know well having worked with him before at Hartlepool," Challinor said.

"He's a very good character and has experience, despite his age, of being involved in promotion-winning teams.

"He'll give us real good versatility down that right-hand side, the one area in the team where we needed some depth."

Nottingham Forest's new signing Rodrigo Ribeiro has been speaking to the club's YouTube channel following his loan move from Sporting Lisbon.

"It’s the best league in the world. For me, it’s a dream to play in this league and for this club.

"I’m focused on playing for this club in this league and I promise to work every day and to keep going with the work and help the team.

Villarreal are trying to sign Manuel Benson from Burnley at this late stage on deadline day.

But the move is complicated by a limit of seven players (not club-trained or under the age of 21) that teams can send out on loan.

The Clarets currently have Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Darko Churlinov, Luke McNally, Michael Obafemi, Samuel Bastien, Wout Weghorst and Scott Twine all out on loan.

Best January deadline day signing for Everton was probably John Stones for £2m. One of the most talented centre backs we’d all seen when he first got a run of games, only matched by a certain £750k January signing from Carlisle a few years later… Jarrad Branthwaite.

Goalkeeper Alex Runarsson has left Arsenal by mutual agreement.

The 28-year-old Iceland international, who joined the Gunners from French side Dijon in 2020, made six appearances in his debut season.

He went on to have loan spells with Leuven in Belgium and Turkish side Alanyaspor, while he spent the first half of this season at Cardiff City, where he made seven appearances.

"Everyone at Arsenal thanks Alex for his contribution during his time with us and we wish him well for the future," a club statement said.
