Baggies fans have played a prominent role in the process that has ended happily with the club under new ownership.

No more so than the centrepiece of their protests: hard-working supporters group Action4Albion, spearheaded by Ali Jones.

But delighted though they are to see Shilen Patel take charge, Albion Ali still had some sage advice to the American about getting his prononciations right - in a short audio plea...

"Right then, Shilen... things to say: Baggies, Albion, the Albion, Black Country.

"Things not to say: Birming-Ham, Socc-Ccer. And West Brom.

"Always, when you're talking about your club, it's the Albion!"

After that surprise pummeling from Preston last Friday, Coventry clobbered Maidstone 5-0 on Monday to set up another neighbourly encounter in the form of an FA Cup quarter-final date with Wolves, having been on a run of three wins and one draw before their off day against North End.

Victory for Mark Robins' side tonight would put them one point behind Hull in the final play-off spot.

They're up against a West Brom side who had also been in fine fettle, winning three of their previous six matches, as well as drawing 2-2 at high-flying Ipswich Town and losing 2-0 at home to Southampton, who start tonight 11 points above them.

That result leaves them looking to avoid losing successive home league games for the first time since October 2022. They've won 34 editions of this fixture, with 18 City wins and 17 draws.

  6. Albion's new regime meets the King... Doug King!published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March

Takeover talk is in the air in the Midlands at The Hawthorns tonight.

West Bromwich Albion, with the ink freshly dried on new owner Shilen Patel’s completion of his newly signed deal, take on a club in Coventry City who went through the same experience just over a year ago. And, in terms of what the new owners inherited, there are obvious similarities.

Like Doug King did at Coventry, so Patel has come in to inherit a club from vastly unpopular predecessors – on the back of a lot of protests from upset fans.

The new King regime has worked well for the Sky Blues, under his American business model. Now thriving off the pitch – and mostly on it too as they bid to repair the damage of another poor start to the campaign.

Last season, City got to the Championship play-off final - and they would like to go one better. But the Baggies are seeking that third promotion place themselves.

Something has to give. And, if Albion can tap into the party mood and triumph tonight, that would take them eight points ahead of Mark Robins’ men.

However, as tonight's fans can warn them, Cov only slipped into the top six for the first time with two weeks of the season to go. In the Championship, it's all about timing your runs.

Good evening and welcome to another tantalising night of English Football League action between two teams who are hoping their seasons go all the way to the end of May.

We are in for a treat between two teams in similarly solid form, although neither won last time out in the Championship, with the Baggies earning a respectable point at Hull City on Saturday after the Sky Blues lost 3-0 at home to Preston the night before.

There has been a measly total of eight goals scored in the last seven league meetings between the two teams. But there's cause to be optimistic about that pattern changing here: in their last 12 games combined, West Brom and Coventry have only been involved in one game each that yielded fewer than two goals, with no goalless draws.

Whatever happens, we'll try to keep you entertained. Full coverage is coming up!
