  5. Even bigger night at the bottom?published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

It's a HUGE evening for relegation-threatened pair QPR and Huddersfield.

If either can pick up victory - at home to West Brom or away to Cardiff respectively - the three points would catapult them up several spaces and provide much-needed breathing space in the battle against the drop.

As kick-off draws nearer, let's take a look at the top of the Championship table.

It's a big night for two teams with play-off aspirations.

Norwich can climb into the top six with victory at Middlesbrough.

And West Brom can further fend off the challenges from several sides below if they win at struggling QPR.

  7. Remembering QPR legend Bowlespublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

QPR v West Brom (20:00 GMT)

As stated, it's a massive night at the top and the bottom of the Championship table tonight.

Wednesday's late fixture has plenty at stake at either end as struggling QPR face promotion-chasing West Brom.

The Rs, like Huddersfield, are level on points with 22nd-placed Stoke and could also pull away from the bottom three with victory tonight.

QPR welcome the Baggies having strung together an unbeaten four-game run at home in the Championship but they've won just once in their past nine league games against West Brom.

It's also their first game at Loftus Road since QPR legend Stan Bowles died on 24 February with boss Marti Cifuentes saying it will "give them extra motivation".

  8. Boro bid for four Canaries wins on spinpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Middlesbrough v Norwich (19:45 GMT)

Norwich boss Wagner, however, will have to end his own Boro 'curse' and the Canaries' bouts of travel sickness if the visitors are to claim the win that would catapult them into the top six.

The German has lost all four of his previous meetings with the Teessiders during his spells as boss at Huddersfield and in East Anglia.

Indeed, Boro have won their past three encounters with Norwich - and the Canaries have not been great on the road recently, winning just one of their past seven away league trips.

  9. Can Huddersfield extend gap to bottom three?published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Cardiff v Huddersfield (19:45 GMT)

Huddersfield are just above the relegation zone on goal difference headed into their trip to Cardiff tonight.

They are level on points with Stoke City but they have a game in hand on the Potters and could widen the gap on the bottom three should they win.

Saturday's draw with high-flying Leeds United was quite impressive despite their league position.

Cardiff, on the other hand, have leapt up the table in recent weeks and will prove a tough nut to crack.

  10. West Brom aim to bolster play-off pushpublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

QPR v West Brom (20:00 GMT)

West Brom travel to the capital to face QPR with the race to the Championship play-offs hotting up.

The Baggies are unbeaten in their past three away league games but their record in London is not quite as rosy.

They have lost 10 of their past 12 trips to the capital however on their most recent trip - also against QPR in late 2022 - they did record a 1-0 victory.

Can they put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in the race for the top six this evening?

  11. Wobbling Watford host up-and-down Swanspublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Watford v Swansea (19:45 GMT)

Five defeats in six games has all but ended Watford's play-off chances and left them just six points above the drop zone even though they sit what seems a relatively healthy 12th.

Just two wins in the Hornets' past 12 matches have plunged Valerien Ismael's future into renewed doubt at a club that has a history of not hesitating to change managers.

Watford have lost all three of their home league games in 2024. The only other time they’ve started a calendar year outside the top-flight with a longer such run was in 1972 in the second tier, when they lost seven straight.

Swansea, meanwhile, have won three of their past five games - including back-to-back away victories at play-off hopefuls Sunderland and Hull - to slightly ease their relegation fears but the Swans remain just four points above the bottom three in 15th.

  12. Can Carrick take Wagner inspiration?published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Middlesbrough v Norwich (19:45 GMT)

It's fair to argue that Michael Carrick is enduring the most testing spell of his near 18-month Riverside reign - four defeats in five, one win in eight in all competitions.

Bizarrely that sole victory came at leaders Leicester but while Boro have slipped to 14th, miles off the play-offs, if Carrick needs encouragement that things can change quickly, he need look only in the visiting dugout.

David Wagner has looked ripe for the sack on more than one occasion during his 14-month spell in charge of Norwich - not least after an autumn run of nine defeats in 12 games - but not only is he still there, he's guided them to the fringes of the top six.

That ascent has come via six wins in nine - and if they triumph again tonight, the Canaries will leapfrog Hull and fly into the play-off places.

Cardiff have certainly improved their form of late with Erol Bulut's side clawing their way up to 11th in the Championship tale.

They take on Huddersfield Town this evening having won at Bristol City at the weekend and having beaten Stoke City last week.

Should they win tonight they will secure a third successive league win for the first time since September.

Meanwhile in the reverse fixture earlier this season, Cardiff thrashed the Terriers 4-0.

Will history repeat itself this evening?

  14. Fire causes Saints v Preston to be postponedpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

As we said earlier, we're a game down tonight in the Championship.

Southampton postponed their fixture with Preston North End at 16:00 GMT following a major fire next to their St Mary's ground.

The club took the decision after consultation with local authorities and emergency services, with widespread disruption caused by the blaze.

Roads around the stadium are closed as fire crews continue to deal with the situation.

A new date for the rescheduled fixture will be announced in due course.

  15. Four games on tonight's slatepublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

We have four Championship fixtures tonight, with kick-offs at 19:45 GMT unless stated:

The Championship returns for another night under the lights.

We're already one fixture down on tonight's schedule after a huge fire next to St Mary's saw Southampton v Preston postponed.

But there are still four games to get stuck into.

    Let's get started.
