Dan Burn has taken the captain's armband.

But while Newcastle are trying to reorganise themselves, they leave the door open for Michail Antonio to have a dipping attempt.

    That's not a bad effort!

That's a deliberate play by the Newcastle playing trying to get round the defender. Whether the defender tries to play the ball or not is after the initial offside so what relevance is it? Offside all day long, not a West Ham fan, but another instance if VAR having the tools but not applying them.

    Fletch, London

Only one of the players was trying to play the ball. Coufal made an attempt for the ball, Gordon deliberately stepped across him to block his attempt and win a penalty. Poor decision

It's a penalty, let's just get on with it please.

This could be the perfect storm for Newcastle today.

The atmosphere at St James' Park is incredible anyway, but when they get a goal early it can really snowball.

If they can keep the intensity and keep pushing, keep on the front foot, they could really take the game away from West Ham.

This does not look good for Jamaal Lascelles. He is lying in a heap. The Newcastle captain is in pain and out comes a stretcher. Hopefully it's just a precaution.

Really good penalty from Alexander Isak.

Shapes his body to go one way and then cuts across the ball to put it in the opposite corner. Alphonse Areola goes the wrong way.

    Terrific start for Newcastle.

I don't think Eddie Howe will be thinking about next season at the moment. It is about finishing this season as strongly as possible, I can't emphasize enough how important that is.

If they do get beaten this afternoon, which is feasible with West Ham having so much quality on the break with Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta.

The owners are extremely ambitious. They are backing Eddie Howe at the moment but if Newcastle do end up finishing in the bottom half and don't finish the campaign strongly, that could change things.
