For a player of Harry Kane's quality he will be wondering how he didn't hit the back of the net. On the half volley, seven or so yards out, but over the bar.

It's really opening up now. Ousmane Dembélé is almost in behind moments later but it's intercepted just in time.

This is where you want Kylian Mbappe. PSG win the ball high up and it's slipped through to Mbappe.

He sprints past the last defender and is one-on-one with Alejandro Remiro but the Sociedad goalkeeper makes a good save.

The angle was tight but Mbappe will be frustrated with that.

You'd back Harry Kane to score here. Thomas Muller does well to keep a ball in on the right and cuts it back to Kane, in a bit of space, eight yards out, and he lifts it over the bar.

Lazio's Gustav Isaksen cuts inside a couple of players and wins a free-kick for the hosts 35 yards out towards the right.

The free-kick is only half-cleared and Luis Alberto's long-range shot hits a defender.

Achraf Hakimi tees up Fabián Ruiz on the edge of the box but he skies it miles over the bar.

Fabian Ruiz wins it in midfield for PSG but Kylian Mbappe has three players around him. He lays it off rather than shooting but it's good defending from Sociedad.

What an opportunity. Joshua Kimmich with the effort from the edge of the box uncontested.

A first-time side foot finish, not far away. He should be doing a little better there, but an early tester for Provedel in the Lazio goal.

Bayern have the first chance of the game. Leroy Sane, on the right wing, finds Joshua Kimmich but the midfielder's first-time effort from 20 yards is off target.

Not a good start by PSG.

It's a poor back pass that's intercepted and flicked on to André Silva. He has space to drive towards the box and shoot.

He does, from just outside, and it flies inches past the right post.

We are under way with one change to the advertised Lazio XI.

Matias Vecino, who was an injury doubt leading up to this, must have suffered a problem in the warm-up because Danilo Cataldi takes his place in midfield.

Thomas Tuchel certainly needs a result after that shambles of a performance against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend in a crucial game in the title race. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong that day.

The Champions League has now become a lot more important for Bayern's season and his Tuchel's personal future. If they get knocked out by Lazio in this tie I think his position is could become very difficult, if not untenable.

There's more than just Kylian Mbappe with Paris St-Germain now. You can't just have the jewel in the crown, you've got to have a unified team that are working cohesively together for that end product, which is to win this trophy.

Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil: "It's not just any game. Imagine what it means for me, the coach and a former player?

"Many think we can get something out of it. If we have our day and they don't, why not think about it?

"We have to go out the same as always. In the league we are not at our best, but this has nothing to do with it. Let's see if we are capable of giving the best version of ourselves."

On dealing with Kylian Mbappe: "I never prepare matches thinking about only one player.

"Kylian Mbappé is one of the best in the world, capable of going into space, capable of leaving four players behind.

"They have a great team but if you only stop Mbappé, there will be another player to cause problems."

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri: "It will be a very difficult match, but we must approach it knowing a win is not impossible.

"Bayern are favourites, they are always strong in the Champions League, and we will need to play with confidence and hold our nerve. When the need arises, we will all have to suffer together.

"We must not forget that we play to have fun. We need to rediscover the sense of fun on the pitch, despite all the responsibilities we have to assume. If the child who loved playing football dies, the man also has less fun."

All seven of Real Sociedad’s goals in the Champions League this season have been scored by four Spanish players.

Brais Méndez has three, Mikel Oyarzabal has two, while Mikel Merino and Ander Barrenetxea have both scored one each.

The last team to have a higher number of different Spanish scorers - excluding own goals - in a single campaign in the competition was 2021-22 semi-finalists Villarreal, who had seven.

I expect there is pressure on Thomas Tuchel from back home to do well in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich are five points back from Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, they were knocked out of the German Cup by a third tier side - this season hasn't gone well so far, but is still redeemable if they turn their form around in the league and if they go on and win the Champions League.

I wouldn't rule them out of winning the Champions League because what do we know? They have some very talented players.

Paris St-Germain go into tonight's game against Real Sociedad with an 11 point lead in Ligue 1.

PSG only finished as runners-up in their Champions League group though as they had stiff competition from leaders Borussia Dortmund.

It was considered one of the toughest groups, with Newcastle and AC Milan also involved.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad are seventh in La Liga and finished top of a group which included Inter Milan, Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg.

"Real Sociedad have a tight defence in the Champions League, they don't give the ball away easily. We have to press them aggressively," said PSG boss Luis Enrique.

"They are certainly one of the best teams in the competition, that is why they qualified as group winners. They were in a group with last year's finalists."
