    FT: Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

So despite a spirited start to the game Brighton were unable to offer much of a challenge to Manchester United in the end. A performance that very much lies in contrast to the other displays we have seen them put in against United earlier in the season.

Marc Skinner's side continue in the hunt for the only remaining trophy available to them this season with a statement performance across the board.

Manchester United march on into the semi-finals of the FA Cup once again thanks to four goals within the first hour of the game.

A special mention to Melvine Malard who was by far the player of the match, notching a hat-trick of assists in the process.

Brighton's cup run earlier than last year, with focus now turning fully towards WSL survival.

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

One last attack of the game for Manchester United.

Ella Toone plays a searching ball forward to Lucia Garcia, who runs into the box and shoots towards the near post. The effort flies wide of the target though.

The free kick is floated into the box, and subsquently headed away by Millie Turner.

Elisabeth Terland takes aim on the rebound, but she drags the shot wide of the target.

Mary Earps adds a spectacular dive to her right hand side for the spectacle of it, but the ball didn't look likely to trouble the United clean sheet.

Substitute Madison Haley does well to hold the ball up on the edge of the Man United box, earning a free kick for her troubles after being dragged to the floor.

  9. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

The PA announcer at Broadfield confirms that six minutes of stoppage time will be played at the end of this game.

Seems a little unneccesary given the result is hardly likely to change at this stage.

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Well that was a resounding no.

The ball into the middle is dealt with by Mary Earps, who clears under pressure from Madison Haley.

Elisabeth Terland then shoots from about 40 yards out, with the ball billowing harmlessly into the stand behind the goal.

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Corner for Brighton on the right hand side, which captain Vicky Losada will take.

Can they at least grab a consolation goal for their fans to cheer about?

  12. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Heading into the final five minutes of this game and play has almost slowed entirely to a stop.

In all honesty since the two rapid-fire goals from United in the first half the result has been pretty much beyond doubt.

  13. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 82 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Two substitutes combine to almost add a fifth goal of the night for the visitors.

Gemma Evans swings in a cross from the left which is met by the head of Irene Guerrero. The ball loops off her head and instead of dropping into the net, drops onto the top of the crossbar and behind.

  14. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 79 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Several United players have their arms in the air claiming for a penalty but the referee waves the appeals away.

A penalty box melee had resulted in two blocks in front of the Brighton goal by centre halves Maria Thorisdottir and Guro Bergsvand, but it would have been harsh for either to be given.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Changes on the way for both sides.

Marc Skinner opts for a triple change for United. Rachel Williams replaces Nikita Parris, Melvine Malard is replaced by Gemma Evans and Irene Guerrero replaces Jayde Riviere.

Mikey Harris makes an attacking change for Brighton with Lee Geum-Min replacing Tatiana Pinto on the right hand side.

  16. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Another chance goes begging for Melvine Malard.

The United forward rises highest at the back post, heading the ball towards goal.

She can't quite get proper contact on it though and the ball flies over the bar.

  17. Postpublished at 73 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Another injury stoppage in this second half, Ella Toone is on the floor holding her leg.

Replays show that she was on the receiving end of a rather forceful challenge from Brighton forward Elisabeth Terland, but the referee deemed it fair enough not to award a free kick.

  18. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Melvine Malard has been everywhere for Manchester United in this game.

She looks set to play Lucia Garcia in on goal down the right but for a robust challenge from Maria Thorisdottir.

She quickly gets back up after the challenge and sprints off to close down the Brighton defence once again.

  19. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Brighton 0-4 Man Utd

Jayde Riviere was given the all clear by the United medical staff by the way.

She seems ok after the apparent head injury, shepherding the ball out of play to ward off a Brighton counter attack down the left.
