City remain third, level on points with Liverpool but separated by goal difference before the Reds take on Sheffield United tomorrow.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to BBC Match of the Day on referee Andy Madley's decision not to give a penalty despite being called to the VAR monitor: "I have never seen ref go to watch VAR then not give a penalty. But I am sure he looked well."

On the performance: "Yes, I enjoyed a lot today watching my players and team. We worked to win the game, but I believe if we play well and give this type of performance, we will win a lot of games."

Aston Villa have a corner and it's not a bad delivery to the back post but Alex Moreno gets his timing all wrong and can't connect with the shot. That would've been a real chance.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to TNT Sport: "We played very well, we were unlucky and deserved to win. Their last game against Man Utd, they shoot 30 times, so we knew the level of difficulty.

"We played better, especially in the second half we had a lot of chances to score. But today we are disappointed, just not in the performance.

"We lost two points, if we analyse the table, but if we analyse the performance we are happy."

The substitutions have just taken the zip out of this one.

Neither side have created much. Ezri Konsa has a hit and hope but Stefan Ortega comes out to collect.

Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I like the battle with De Zerbi. We tried to outsmart each other, it was a fairly even contest, they had the ball more but it was an even battle.

"And if we cant win, don't lose. A clean sheet is very good, and it was not like Mark [Flekken] needed to pull out seven saves.

On their run of eight games without a win: "You can feel in yourself if you are happy. If we have five wins with bad performances, you can twist it in the media, but you know it is not sustainable."

"I am so pleased we did not make a mistake, we have made too many defensive mistakes this season. Today we were good without being through the roof."

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports: "Very happy. It was a really difficult game and credit to Luton, they are a very good side and make it difficult for us.

"We scored two really good goals in the first half, in the second half because of the way they play we didn't get the right rhythm.

"I am so happy with the boys who came in, they made a difference. Now we have a bigger squad with nearly everyone fit and available."

On Emile Smith Rowe: "I was really impressed with him. He has been training really well and we felt the game could suit us.

"Really pleased for the boys who came in.

"It is a busy month, we have started well again after an international break and next is Brighton."

Couple more changes for the home side as Jeremy Doku is replaced by Sergio Gomes and Oscar Bobb replaces hat-trick scorer Phil Foden.

Another brilliant night in blue for Foden.

Luton Town

Luton boss Rob Edwards, speaking to TNT Sports: "Parts of it were exceptional. After we went 1-0 down we saw a bit more of us, we were a bit braver and committed to be the team we wanted to be.

"I saw so many good things out there today. I thought the second half was an excellent performance by us.

"To stay in the game and still be in the game late on was really pleasing. We were aggressive but when we got into the final third we were lacking that final pass.

"I am really proud of the lads. It is hard to be at our best but we have come to Arsenal and lost 2-0 - that happens to many teams. There is no shame in that, I thought there were loads of good things.

"Tonight was never going to define our season. Saturday, Bournemouth in the last 20 games are around fifth in the table so it won't be easy, but our focus goes onto Saturday."
