The old cliche of one game at a time for Manchester City.

There is no point in looking ahead to Real Madrid and dropping points at Selhurst Park. He has to make sure his team get the job done, get three points on the table and look to improve their goal difference at the same time.

There are only Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake out now, and hopefully they are not too far away. It is great for him to have a nearly fully fit squad to choose from.

All this talk of City ‘choosing’ what they’d prefer. Judging by how much they’ve spent and how ambitious Pep is, I’m sure they’d want literally everything every season. Whether they can is a question of injuries, bookings, and attitude.

That City team would be a headache even for a PhD maths student..

    Tom

Seriously Pep? Again? You bench my captain in fantasy. Are you out to ruin my score?

Crystal Palace's fixtures until the end of the season are not too kind. After taking on title-chasing Manchester City they face Liverpool before games against West Ham and Newcastle - teams battling for European football.

That then leaves them with matches against Fulham, Manchester United, Wolves and Aston Villa, who all - apart from arguably Fulham - will have something to play for at the end of the season.

There are positives under Oliver Glasner and you can see what he is trying to implement, but before he gets a chance to work on his project, he needs to get those last few points to secure safety.

More from Crystal Palace Oliver Glasner speaking to TNT Sports...

On the return of Michael Olise: "We should not put too much pressure on Michael because he has been out for eight or nine weeks and only training for a week and half, and the medical team advised us to give him 15 to 20 minutes.

"In training you can see he is excellent with the ball, dribbling, finishing. I hope he can have a good impact on us. We are happy that he is back again.

On having a say in the title race:"I hope so and I expect it. We have had two games here so far and the crowd have been amazing. They have been loud from the first to the last whistle of the referee and we need Selhurst at its best today because Manchester City is a great team in great shape.

"We need everything we can get from the fans, which I hope is a lot. With their energy and support it is possible to take a point or even win the game."

Selhurst Park has not been a happy place this season with Crystal Palace conceding more than they have scored at home.

But the Eagles do have form in recent years when it comes to derailing visiting teams pushing for the title.

It's approaching the 10th anniversary when Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool blew a 3-0 lead against Palace and had to settle for a point after conceding three late goals.

Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City went on to win the title by two points.

Phil Foden's finishing has been unbelievable. But I don't think he has even reached his potential yet. I think he is at 60% and I think he is going to continue to get better and better. I don't think he is anywhere near the finished article.

So, Phil Foden - the leading Premier League goalscorer in 2024 on nine goals - is on the bench.

Foden started in 28 of City’s previous 30 Premier League matches this season. City won both matches he did not start - 2-1 at Sheffield United and 6-1 at home against Bournemouth.

Since Oliver Glasner was appointed the feeling around Selhurst Park has been largely positive. The players have been impressed by his energy, and his winning start against Burnley meant supporters were happy.

But, after conceding the late equaliser against Luton Town and the defeat by Bournemouth, some supporters are starting to look at the points gap to the relegation places.

Yes, the Eagles are eight points away from 18th-placed Luton, but in matches against the Hatters, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, Palace have taken just two points.

    Are Crystal Palace safe?

They start this in 14th, with an eight-point safety cushion with eight games to go.

However, Oliver Glasner's side face back-to-back games against Manchester City and Liverpool.

Not what you want when you've only won once in eight league games, a run which has left some natives restless.

"I'm not happy with the points we have," said Glasner, whose team lost 1-0 at Bournemouth on Tuesday. "We should have more points. But I don't look back because we can't change the results, I look forward at what we have to do in training, what we show the players, what we tell the players."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to TNT Sports: "[Is it a must-win game?] You never know. It is a sentence that you say but you never know what is going to happen. Who knows? Of course when you see the trajectory of the three teams, the contenders, you know you cannot drop points if you want to be there until the end fighting."

On playing before Liverpool and Arsenal this weekend: "Ask the broadcasters, they are the reason we are here now playing at 12:30. It is what it is. Sometimes you play before, sometimes you play after. In the league there are many situations like this that you have to handle, it is what it is, let's go."

On the return of Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne: "For Tuesday yes [it is important for minutes], but for the other games as well. We play every three days. There are other players that I would love to play but for the shape it was not possible. So yes a lot of games in the schedule, the different competitions, three days, three days and three days.

"It is not just the legs, it is for the mind too. It is good to rest a little bit from the tension, the adrenaline needed to compete well. It is good for the next ones. "

    Michael Brown
Former Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

You have got to give full credit to Arsenal and Liverpool for the way they have come at it this season. Arsenal fell away last season but the improvement has been vast. It's much tighter for Manchester City on this occasion.

  13. Title race: 'Arsenal have hardest fixtures'published at 11:52 British Summer Time 6 April

    Owen Hargreaves

People always say 'we don't look too far ahead'. Trust me, everybody does. You go game-to-game but you look what you have ahead. Sometimes it's slightly easier if you're just behind [the leaders]. If you're just chasing a little bit it means you are the slight underdogs.

If I look at the fixtures, Arsenal have got the hardest run-in. I think it's going to be tough for them even though they went to the Etihad and played fantastic.

I think they could win it this season but I just think with Manchester City's experience and the fixtures they have, I think they [City] are favourites.

Manchester City's push for a double-Treble is about to be seriously tested.

If they could win only one of the following this season, which is more important?

It's amazing that we have got three brilliant teams competing for the title.

If Arsenal win it, that would be an amazing story.

If Jurgen Klopp wins it in his last season with Liverpool, that would be unreal.

If Manchester City go on and win another Treble, that would be unbelievable.

Mathew: Nothing has changed at Crystal Palace and it feels like Roy Hodgson is still here. It was a waste of time hiring Oliver Glasner for a team with no goalscorers. Should have kept Hodgson and got relegated gracefully.

Peter: Palace are heading for relegation. Too many players of the next league down - which they will do OK in next season. Good luck, but get some talent spotters who know the job of a Premier League scout!

I'd love Arsenal of course, but there's just something about Liverpool that I've been really amazed with how they've dealt with the injuries as well.

I haven't changed my view on who I believe is going to win the league from day one - I went for Liverpool.

That home support is incredible. And the announcement of Jurgen Klopp [leaving in the summer], that's going to always help.
