Liverpool will be disappointed to have conceded the Premier League leadership to Arsenal this weekend, but they are still in an outstanding position as the season enters its final stretch.

And the fearless approach of Jurgen Klopp's side, which they demonstrated once they got themselves back in the game, means they can enter this defining period with confidence.

RedForever: I am so proud of the way that Liverpool played in that game. Absolutely refused to give up in facing a team that on the day had every advantage. Perhaps a draw was a fair result, but the real winner was “football”.

The expectation was that Manchester City would come in and be a better side today. Liverpool in the first half were not at a level that they would have liked to be but, overall I think Liverpool will be happy.

If you asked Liverpool before the game if they would take a draw I think Jurgen Klopp would have said yes.

Hate to say it but Liverpool look very much the team to beat. Manchester City lucky to get out of there with a point. As an Arsenal fan, I'm happy to be sitting top, though hard to see it lasting.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Sensational. First 10 minutes we were in a bit of a rush and Manchester City were directly there.

"The second half was the best we ever played against Manchester City, definitely.

"They hit the post of course but we should have scored two or three goals. Exceptional football game. Wow!

"For me, we proved today the first time 100% we are exactly where we should be. We will fight for it and see what we can get.

"I don't think I've seen them struggling like they were today. We were outstanding.

"The mother of all results is the performance. The good things we have to keep doing."

On not getting a penalty at the end of the game: "It was 100% penalty. They will find an explanation. It was 100% foul in all areas of the pitch and probably a yellow card.

"All the people with ipads around me were 'wow, clear'. Maybe they can hide behind the phrase it is not clear and obvious.

"It is of course a penalty but we didn't get it and that is fine. The most important thing for me is that we can play football like that. I saw so many sensational performances today."

On Wataru Endo: "What can you expect when you sign 31-year-old captain of Japan and he will be a standout player in the Premier League. You never know that people can develop to world class but that's what happened."

What about the negativity that Liverpool fans were giving to Manchester City? Booing them every single time they were on the ball.

Now that will spook you now and again if you are a player.

You want to play your passing, controlling game but you're getting battered, you're getting howls of abuse every single second, every time you have got the ball.

So it's not comfortable possession you have got.

    They played their part today.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "We started really well but they are incredible team. We had our moments, they had theirs. The way they play it is not easy. We take that point.

"First half we had momentum, lots of chances first half. And after we gave away the penalty, we suffered. It was a good game for the spectators."

On Kevin de Bruyne being annoyed at being substituted: "That's good. Have a chance next game to prove it. We need a player who keeps the ball. Its not about pressing. Kovacic is really good at that. We were happy with Kevin. It's not a problem. We're fine."

On the atmosphere: "I know how difficult it is at Anfield. It is difficult at Etihad too, Liverpool have not won there in eight years. We prove, both sides we are incredible competitors. I would prefer a win but they prove for many years the quality they have. It was good from everyone."

On Jurgen Klopp: "We wouldn't need a hug to show that [respect]. He defends his club, I defend mine. Our history speaks for itself. We still have 10 games to go, many things can happen."

A number of players were great today but I thought Luis Diaz was really, really special. He has improved in my eyes consistently.

Looking at him today, he is a player I like. He is a fabulous player and I think part of that is Jurgen Klopp - he has made him a better player.

Manchester City defender John Stones, speaking to Sky Sports: "We created quite a lot of chances early on in the game and probably could have taken them and been two or three up but that is football.

"We know what we are in for coming here. We feel a bit deflated in the dressing room. We came here to win, but this is such a difficult place to come.

"I think the second half was more them than us and it kind of balanced out. We'll take the point.

"Every game is a final for us. We treat every game like that. We have to continue, take the positives out of today and look forward to the next game."

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to Sky Sports: "Second half was obviously much better than 15-20 minutes in the first half. We should have closed the middle a bit better but we reacted well. We had very good chances, unfortunately we couldn't get the winner but overall bittersweet.

"Based on the second half you feel we should have won it, but they hit the post as well. It was so close.

"Manchester City has been very successful with the titles they have won and every game we have played against each other have been very intense. Every game is so difficult, they have quality all over the pitch and that is why they won the Treble last year. I respect that but the aim for us today was to win the game.

"To come away with a point is not a bad situation and we have to focus on what's next. We just have to enjoy the ride."

Was Haaland playing today? Totally pedestrian. Liverpool will be disappointed with 2 dropped points as they were the only team going for the win

A real joy to watch this game today. What a performance from Diaz - just relentless energy. City very luck in the end to not concede a penalty. That decision could be crucial in the long run.

    What a game!

Fantastic from both teams, they should be proud of themselves.

What these two teams and managers have given us over the last six-to-seven years has been outstanding and it looks like the title race will go down to the wire.
