    Falkirk 0-0 Edinburgh City

BBC Scotland at the Falkirk Stadium

With the title on the line, things are predictably edgy here in Falkirk in the opening 10 minutes or so.

Best chance so far fell to the home side, however, with Ross MacIver shooting narrowly past when played in on goal.

Home fans beating the drum loudly and proudly, with two of the three stands sold out and a smattering of fans in the other one too.

Very lively start by Arbroath, with Jay Bird and Ricky Little forcing Partick Thistle keeping keeper David Mitchell busy with good efforts on goal.

Quiet so far. From experience, I can assure you it will not last.

Calm before the storm and all that.

Last time I did a lower league live text, everything was turned upside down by Neil Warnock's shock departure less than an hour after taking Aberdeen to the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

It's gone rather quiet on the new boss front, but if anyone at Pittodrie is reading this, please don't announce anyone until well after our SPFL action has come and gone. I'd really appreciate it.

    Falkirk v Edinburgh City (15:00)

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Scotland at the Falkirk Stadium

Seems a while ago now but Edinburgh City very nearly spoiled Falkirk's unbeaten record.

But for a controversial 90th minute penalty from Calvin Miller at Meadowbank back in January, the Citizens would have won 2-1, leaving the Bairns 'invincible' no more.

Last time they were here at the Falkirk Stadium, City only lost 2-1 to the runaway league leaders, so this may turn out to be slightly closer than some are expecting.

When I arrived at Gayfield the North Sea wind was howling around the ground, however as the afternoon has wore on, it has died down a bit and the playing conditions are not too bad at all.

And the pitch isn't looking too bad either so hopefully we can get a decent game of football on the Angus coast.

Thanks to Partick Thistle fans on their travels to Gayfield last season, I can't read the name of this shop without singing their rather inventive chant.

    If you know, you know.

    FT: Netherlands 4-0 Scotland (Fri)

I know, I know, you're not trying to think about it.

It was a confusing night for Scotland in Amsterdam, with plenty of positives on display, coupled with a concerning lack of concentration.

We've had piles of reaction to the game last night, which you can find all in one place on our dedicated national team page. Don't forget to sign up for notifications!

  13. What about Raith?published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

Where are Raith Rovers? I hear you cry.

The other half of this thrilling Championship title race are enjoying a weekend off due to Airdrieonians' involvement in tomorrow's SPFL Trust Trophy Final.

Rhys McCabe's men take on Welsh league leaders The New Saints at 16:15 tomorrow. That one's live on BBC Alba with live text coverage from someone much less funny than me.

    If that's possible.

  14. 'Rule out a Caley victory at your peril'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

Dundee United v Inverness CT (15:00)

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Scotland at Tannadice

For Dundee United, they know that if they win all seven remaining matches then it will be Premiership football once again at Tannadice.

Any slip ups, and there have been a few, then Raith Rovers can pounce.

United’s record against today’s opponents is very good. Unbeaten in their last nine meetings and with eight victories in that spell, you would have to make Jim Goodwin's side strong favourites.

But at this time of the season strange results can be thrown up and in the knowledge a win could take them out of the relegation play-off spot, rule out a Caley victory today at your peril.

  15. McGlynn staying coolpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

    Falkirk v Edinburgh City (15:00)

John McGlynn tells BBC Sportsound he isn't expecting an easy game against already-relegated Edinburgh City.

He's excited to lead his Falkirk team out in front of a crowd of over 60000. He says he won't be keeping an eye on the Hamilton result.

He might be the only one in FK5 in that boat...

  16. Is the great escape actually on?published at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

We all love a relegation dogfight, don't we? Provided your team's not in it, of course.

The most engrossing scrap in the SPFL is taking place in League 2, with a three-way tussle emerging in a battle for survival.

Ian McCall's Clyde have somehow clawed their way back into content with their recent revival, now only three points behind Stranraer and Bonnyrigg Rose.

Can they climb off the bottom come 5pm?

    Falkirk v Edinburgh City (15:00)

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Scotland at the Falkirk Stadium

One of the biggest crowds of the day is gathering here at the Falkirk stadium, where there's a real sense of anticipation.

So far 'invincible' - unbeaten in their 29 League 1 matches so far this term - will win the title today if they beat Edinburgh City here and Hamilton Accies fail to win away at Cove.

They're expecting just shy of 6000 in here this afternoon, as Falkirk's fine season is about to get the reward it deserves. If not today, then very soon.

  18. Business end of the seasonpublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

    Arbroath v Partick Thistle (15:00)

    ArbroathImage source, SNS

If Abroath are to avoid dropping down to the third tier, they're going to have start picking up wins - and soon.

The Red Lichties trail Inverness by eight points, though they have played a game fewer than Duncan Ferguson's side.

Meanwhile, Partick Thistle have a promotion play-off to secure with half the division breathing down their necks.

Kris Doolan's men ended their eight-game winless run in league action with a win over fellow promotion hopefuls Greenock Morton last time out, and will be hoping that can kick them up a gear in the final stretch of the season.

    Image caption,

Owen Moffat scored inside 20 seconds the last time the sides met at Cappielow.

I covered this fixture earlier in the season and, my word, I had a good time.

Owen Moffat scoring his first ever professional goals inside six minutes is, of course, the standout.

But Cappielow always has the ability to throw up a special moment. On this occasion, it was a fan launching a half-eaten pie onto the pitch in disgust.

Still wonder from time-to-time what kind it was. Money's on macaroni.

  20. Looking up or over the shoulder?published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2024

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (15:00)

    Scott BrownImage source, SNS

This is a big one at Somerset Park.

Two sides who have improved under their new managers, but very much could finish at either end of the table.

Ayr are just two points ahead of eighth-placed Queen's Park, who themselves are only a couple of points clear of Inverness in the relegation play-off spot.

A win would boost teams' survival hopes a great deal, while also allowing them to look up to the promotion play-offs in this tightly contested league.
