This match sums up Southgate's era. A team much less than the sum of its parts.

    England 1-2 Belgium

Belgium nearly seal the win. They hit England on a counter and it's three attackers versus two defenders. Jeremy Doku leads the charge, slides it through the middle to a sliding Dodi Lukebakio, but he can't send it on target and over Jordan Pickford's goal it goes.

    England were stretched then.

England have a really tough task to win the Euros. They've shown they are susceptible in defence.

Late drama in one of play-off ties... Ukraine have gone ahead against Iceland!

Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk strokes Ukraine into a 2-1 lead from the edge of the Iceland box.

Has Mudryk sent his nation to the Euro 2024 finals? Little over five minutes of normal time left.

Meanwhile, Wales are still goalless against Poland...

Few chances have been created as the home fans try to rally their boys. Follow all the action from Cardiff here.

There have been so many positives for England tonight, but that doesn't change the fact that they're still losing at home.

Belgium, just as they did twice at the Russia World Cup in 2018, are heading for a win over the Three Lions. Five minutes plus injury time for England to salvage something.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 83 mins

    England 1-2 Belgium

A double change for England. Off goes Ivan Toney, another to give his Euro hopes a massive lift tonight, and on comes Ollie Watkins.

Anthony Gordon is also on for England cap number two and Jarrod Bowen is replaced, but can be very happy with his night's work.

The hype is real, please stop saying England will walk the Euros. It won't happen. The squad is good, but not champion level. Curb your expectations.

There have been some really good flashes from England. Gareth Southgate was clapping and shouting on encouragement when Phil Foden's shot flashed past the post.

The link-up play between Jarrod Bowen and Phil Foden has been one of the highlights for England and they're at it again, with Bowen running through the middle, it's hit left to Foden and he shoots first time looking for the bottom corner. Just wide though.

England looking a bit stale in this game, time for a change - Cole Palmer looks perfect for the situation.

  14. Euro 2024 play-off latestpublished at 21:20 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March

Little over 15 minutes to go in Cardiff. About the same in Wroclaw.

Things are still tight and becoming even tenser in the final two Euro 2024 play-off games.

Wales and Poland are still goalless, while Ukraine against Iceland remains 1-1.

The winner of each game - perhaps after extra-time and penalties - will clinch a summer trip to Germany.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    England 1-2 Belgium

Kobbie Mainoo has been absolutely superb today and gets a great reception from the Wembley crowd as he goes off for James Maddison.

Mainoo, 18, has done his Euro hopes a whole lot of good tonight. On this performance, he may well have forced himself into not just the Euros squad, but the starting XI.

England have thrashed Luxembourg to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship in 2025.

Noni Madueke, Morgan Rogers and Samuel Iling-Junior all scored twice, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens also on the scoresheet on for Lee Carsley's side.

The Young Lions have now scored 32 goals in seven matches as they look to reach Slovakia next summer.

However, they remain second in Group F, level on points with Ukraine, who defeated them in October.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 72 mins

    England 1-2 Belgium

There will be no hat-trick for Youri Tielemans as he goes off, as does Arthur Theate with Thomas Meunier and Aster Vranckx coming on for Belgium.

James Maddison is getting ready to come on for the hosts.

  19. Postpublished at 69 mins

Joe Gomez, who came on after only 10 minutes for the injured John Stones, is the first England man to get a yellow card for a mistimed challenge.

    England 1-2 Belgium

It's been a really good watch and Romelu Lukaku fires over with a first-time attempt at one end, before England counter well.

Almost a goal for Kobbie Mainoo, which would have capped a hugely impressive performance from the 18-year-old in his first international start.

Only the legs of Matz Sels deny the Manchester United midfielder.
