Pep Guardiola is a perfectionist so he will be frustrated with the goals that Manchester City conceded tonight.

It is brilliant but hard to watch at times when City strangle and kill games and exert total control. When it is so slow and they grind teams down.

The pattern of conceding goals has continued so I am sure it is something they will look at, trying to get a bit tighter and having more of that control on the ball in the return leg.

With the changes to the side, injuries and other absences, there were probably one too many changes to kill the game tonight. They normally deal with those situations a lot better.

Andrew Pepper: Arsenal just don't appear to be able to do it in European competition. I hope they can but I don't have much hope.

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to TNT Sports: "Tough work, tough game against a very strong opponent with a fantastic crowd today. The atmosphere was amazing for the home team.

"We stepped up after 1-0 down, very good reaction. In general a very good team effort. We hit the post.

"I think the referee did not have the courage to give a deserved penalty today in a bit of a crazy and awkward situation. He admitted on the pitch that he saw the situation and that quarter-final is not enough for him to give a penalty. He admitted he saw the mistake the player made."

What incident are you referring to? "It was a goal kick off, the goalkeeper passed to a central defender and one touched the ball with the hand because he thought it was not in game but it was in game and the referee admitted it was in game and was handball. Very frustrating.

"We were relentless and kept on believing and kept fighting. Everything is open now."

The game had absolutely everything!

Both teams showed how physical and competitive they can be. The pace of the first half was electric and then City took control, Madrid changes things and got themselves back in it after going behind again.

At times both teams showed their ability to go through the gears. Each set of players know when to slow the game down and then all of a sudden it is turn the turbo on and up the tempo and fly forward.

We've got to say on this occasion it is not a penalty for the foul on Bukayo Saka.

I like what he does and how he is as a player but he has tried to engineer the decision on this one. His leg comes out in an unnatural position, it is not in his natural stride.

The referee has made the right decision.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to TNT Sports:

"We started really well but this is so difficult to come here, they defend really well and the pace they have up front is really amazing. We were a bit anxious with the ball in the first half we lost a lot of balls and when that happens the team are so difficult to play against. The second half we showed incredible personality in the way we played. To come back from two or three would be difficult in Manchester. We played with composure, two fantastic goals. At the end Madrid, 77 minutes in this stadium they can do it. 3-3 we take it and we have to win the next game to get to the semi-final."

On deflected goals: "I don't believe much in the lucky or unlucky in football."

On half-time chat: "Be more calm, move less, be safer with the ball and attack outside the areas. Be exactly what we talked about. I said it's 45 minutes then 90 minutes so a lot of minutes left to play. Sometimes you want to be crazy but they did really well."

On Josko Gvardiol: "We were lucky he is with us and he could play today otherwise it would be difficult because we didn't have players. The way he played was amazing, he played really really good. He's a lovely guy so we're really pleased to have him and score too."

On Phil Foden injury: "A knock. He was grumpy with me for making the substitutions but he made a fantastic goal.

"Next week we have our people, our people are there and we need all of them, the energy to beat the kings of this competition. We will go for it in Manchester with our people."

John: Look at Neuer's face and body language after the Saka challenge. He knows he's got away with a huge one there...

Thomas Tuchel says that Bayern Munich should have had a penalty for handball when David Raya played the ball to Gabriel from a goal kick and the Arsenal defender picked it up.

He says Bayern are angry as the referee didn't give it as he said it was a 'kids mistake'.

Rob: Arsenal were poor tonight. They let themselves get bullied as they lacked the game intelligence to manage against a more experienced side. Too many players off the pace and Saka bottled a golden opportunity when hanging his leg out instead of staying on his feet and running round the keeper. Saka should be embarrassed.

More from Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane, speaking to TNT Sports: "Having no fans here tonight was tough. Having a full stadium [next week] will push us on.

"We had a big chance to go 3-1 up but Leroy [Sane] didn't put it away unfortunately.

"It's been an amazing experience in Germany personally. To see a different culture and a different league. The league is gone this season but I am there for a long time.

"You saw a real determined team today. We had to show togetherness and show fight. Today was small step in the right direction."

On Thomas Tuchel leaving at the end of the season: "It's a little bit strange if I am totally honest. All I can say is he has given everything in every training session."

Manchester City's Phil Foden, speaking to TNT Sports about his injury:

"Just got a bad dead leg at the end, time to recover before next games so hopefully I can.

"For the fans it must've been one of the best games they could've watched. Two great teams with the best attackers in the world. What the fans want to see and plenty of goals."

On going an early goal down: "It didn't change the game-plan but sometimes you score too early I believe in that sometimes. They responded well with two quick goals. But this team has come a long way we don't put our heads down we know we can come from behind. It's a great team to be a part of.

"With the possession we had they got a bit tired and there was a bit more space for me to come inside, as time went on the game seemed to open up a bit more. We grew into the game and we had some chances in the second half. Happy to make the most of my chance. Fantastic result to come here and do that."

On knowing goal would go in as soon as he struck it: "I did, I felt a sweet connection with it. It's something I practice in training scoring on the edge of the area."

Disappointed not to see out the win? "Bit disappointed to go 3-2 up and not control it a bit more, we didn't keep the ball off the goal kick and they scored with a fantastic strike. We can't dwell on it there's so many positives to take."

Yep: Phil Foden is like a ballerina in the box. What a player we have in the England set up.

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports: "The game had different moments. We started really well, we were dominant, didn't concede anything. We scored a really good goal and after that is the moment of the game when Ben [White] is in front of [Manuel] Neuer and if it was 2-0 it would have been a very different game.

"They scored and it created some uncertainty, the second goal was unusual for us to concede but it is the Champions League, you make a mistake and get punished.

"We allowed them the spaces to run and they were very dangerous but even at 2-1 we tried to make a rhythm, we were composed and didn't try to rush things and the changes had an impact on the game.

"In the Champions League you give something they will take it. You get punished. That is part of football as well.

"The things we can control is do the simple things better."

On late penalty shout: "They said they checked it and decided it was not a penalty."

Can you get job done in Munich? "I have a lot of belief we can go there and beat them. We have to prepare really well."

Bayern Munich will have really got confidence from this first leg, getting a couple of goals away from home against such a well performing and solid Arsenal side. They showed they have players who can step up and hurt you at any time.

Credit to Mikel Arteta, he made substitutions to get back into the game, which they did. But this is a dangerous second leg to come for Arsenal.

Before this game I think most people were leaning towards Arsenal as favourites for the tie, but can you argue now that Bayern are given how tonight's match has gone?

Kedri: I’m not sure Saka’s leg could have outstretched any further! Good call, ref.

You have got to say Manchester City will now be favourites going back to the Etihad, as not many teams get anything from there. They will be confident I'm sure.

Don't write Real Madrid off though, they have players that can hurt you, players that are so unpredictable.
