    Aston Villa 2-0 Chelsea

Maybe a little bit of frustration starting to seep in from Chelsea now.

Nicolas Jackson brings down Matty Cash unnecessarily.

We have just gone into six minutes of additional time at the end of the first half.

That is the difference between the two sides, Villa have been clinical, Chelsea haven't.

Morgan Rogers has come into this side, bringing physicality and driving midfield runs, which Unai Emery really likes.

Villa move the ball quickly, get into some good positions and when they do get in there, they are not closed down. Again the ball sneaks into the near post, Rogers shot going into the bottom corner.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Chelsea

The atmosphere had gone a little bit flat following Aston Villa's first goal with Chelsea controlling the tempo of the game but that goal has got the home faithful going again.

A win tonight will put Aston Villa nine points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham.

Spurs will have three games in hand though.

That is a swift counter-attack from Aston Villa and a fine finish from Morgan Rogers to double their lead.

Matty Cash sweeps the ball into the feet of the January signing and Rogers coolly picks his spot in the bottom left corner.

Rogers has scored a goal in each of Villa's last three home Premier League games.

Leon Bailey is mesmerised by the footwork of Mykhailo Mudryk and gives away a free kick to Chelsea around 12 yards shy of the corner flag.

Cole Palmer swings in the set-piece and it's cleared by Villa.

The offside flag goes up too.

Marc Cucurella is desperate to atone for his own goal. He has been charging around the field ever since that incident in the fourth minute.

The Spaniard makes good ground down the right this time and then loses his footing under pressure from Matty Cash on the edge of the Villa box.

    You can't question his endeavour.

Nicolas Jackson has had one ruled out for offside and he's just hit the post.

The Senegal striker had Emiliano Martinez beaten as he meets Marc Cucurella's cross with his head but the woodwork keeps Villa in front.

    It's just not his night.

It's still pretty much one way traffic with Chelsea dominating possession.

Ollie Watkins goes chasing after Thiago Silva and the England striker throws his arms out in frustration when he realises no one else has engaged in the press.

To Peter ( 8.24 ) Forgive me if I'm wrong but have Chelsea not already had a massive clear out and re-build? Or is it an annual thing that's needed?

    Gary, Dorset

Peter @8.24. So that's your solution is it? Sack a squad of young, inexperienced, talented players every year?? Wow. This is the view of plastic fans with no patience or loyalty to the club.

This has been a really good response from Chelsea.

Chelsea are playing all of their football in Aston Villa's half of the field.

It feels only a matter of time until they find an equaliser.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 27 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Chelsea

The change is made. Off goes Youri Tielemans and on comes Moussa Diaby.

Diaby goes straight over to John McGinn to pass on a message.

It certainly isn't like for like.

Emiliano Martinez was also receiving some treatment to his thigh while that substitution was taking place.

It looks like we're going to get an early substitution here.

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans has just gone down off the ball and looks to be in a fair bit of pain.

Moussa Diaby is already getting ready on the touchline.

I can't see Chelsea getting anything from this match now. I feel our only chance in games is if we score first. Once we go behind, I don't believe we have enough firepower up front to get ahead and I've no confidence in the defence keeping out more. Keep Poch, but there has to be a proper clear-out and re-build in the summer.

    Peter, Kent

Paul C: One of the few occasions where Nicolas Jackson looks competent and finishes really well and he’s given offside…

Arjun: And that, right there, is Chelsea’s last two years in microcosm. I’m certain they’ve had more goals disallowed from VAR than any other team in Europe
