They had a few warning shots in the first half with those log-range efforts, Bristol City.

They all dropped off and allowed Fowler time and space and there's no taking anything away from that shot. It was stunning.

This was a game to be decided by either a mistake or a moment of magic - and it was the latter.

Relief for City, who are going six points clear of Chelsea as it stands.

    Mary Fowler

    Pick that one out.

That is some finish from Mary Fowler and well worth the wait.

Fowler is given far too much space to carry the ball and she eventually unleashes a thunderbolt of a shot, which dips away from Shae Yanez and into the top right corner.

Lauren Hemp is a great player - but, my goodness, she misses a lot of sitters.

The chances are flowing much more freely now for Manchester City.

We're starting to see why Bristol City have conceded 54 times this season - that's an average of 2.8 goals per game.

Surely Manchester City have to put one of these away sooner rather than later?

That is better from Manchester City. They came out the left and created the overload and then moved it to the other side.

That header back across goal from Mary Fowler was perfect - but no-one gambled to get to the edge of the six yard box.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but surely Bunny Shaw would have made that run...

  9. CLOSE!published at 20:07 British Summer Time 28 April

    Bristol City 0-0 Manchester City

    Oh my.

Manchester City are really lacking that clinical edge today.

This time it's Laia Aleixandri all on her own just six yards out and she fails to make a clean connection with her head. It goes horribly wide.

Some desperate defending from Bristol City as Manchester City have a couple of half chances.

It gets away from Lauren Hemp and Jess Park follows up with a shot straight at Shae Yanez.

    Tanya Oxtoby

They have got really good numbers in their deeper areas and to be honest they will be happy with how it is going.

City aren't trying to play it wide too much and trying to play through the middle. That suits Bristol City as that is how they are set up.

Lauren Hemp will be kicking herself with that attempt. She would have been expecting the net to bulge.

  12. CLOSE!published at 20:04 British Summer Time 28 April

    Bristol City 0-0 Manchester City

    What a chance!

Mary Fowler is out on the left now and she stands a really inviting ball up to the far post for Lauren Hemp who makes a good connection but it bounces just the wrong side of the post.

It's been a sloppy performance from City - passes misplaced, balls caught under feet, shots scuffed.

Far from a goal difference booster, they will be happy with a scrappy 1-0 win from here.

Kerstin Casparij's first involvement is to get tangled up with Jamie-Lee Napier.

It was a clear and cynical foul from Casparij to stop the attack but she escapes without a booking.

Gareth Taylor may have sent his players out early for the second half but they aren't looking too alert.

Some sloppy passing see a couple of attacks break down.

They just haven't been fully at it so far today.

A positive start to the second half for Bristol City.

Rachel Furness has the ball down the left and her cross is deflected behind for Bristol City's first corner of the game.

It's a decent delivery but Furness heads well over the bar.

This seemed a goal-difference boosting for Manchester City but, without Shaw, their finishing has been woeful. Could an unthinkable failure here virtually hand the WSL title to Chelsea?

There's also a change for Manchester City with Kerstin Casparij replacing Alanna Kennedy in defence.

  19. 'Bristol City will look to go to a back five soon'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 28 April

    Bristol City 0-0 Manchester City

    Tanya Oxtoby
Former Bristol City manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

First and foremost, you know Manchester City are going to create chances.

I think at some point Bristol City will have to go to a back five and if I am Gareth Taylor I am looking to exploit any gaps.

Also, if Bristol go to a back five, they will be less likely to score so it's a difficult one.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 28 April

    Bristol City 0-0 Manchester City

Bristol City boss Lauren Smith has made a double change at the break.

Amalie Thestrup must still be feeling it after she picked up a knock late in the first half and she goes off alongside Ffion Morgan.

Abi Harrison and Carrie Jones come on.
