One cannot imagine manager Gareth Taylor was particularly happy.

The half-time entertainment at Ashton Gate is second to none.

The Women’s Super League will have a new name among its ranks next season after Crystal Palace rubber-stamped promotion from the Championship on the final day of the season.

The Eagles were all but sure of their place in the top flight thanks to a 2-0 victory at relegated Lewes that put them three points clear of second-placed Charlton, with an overwhelming advantage in goal difference.

On Sunday, that place was sealed with a goalless draw against Sunderland in front of a club-record 6,796 crowd at Selhurst Park.

It has been a historic season for Palace and one that even their captain admits has surpassed expectations.

"At the start of the season there were a lot of changes," Palace captain Aimee Everett told BBC Sport. "Honestly, I don't think anyone expected this would have been the outcome, but this is what everyone wanted to achieve."

In case you missed it, Ella Toone's strike sealed victory for Manchester United at the King Power Stadium earlier today.

A reminder that anything but a win for Bristol City means they will be relegated tonight.

At any other point of the season a draw against Manchester City would be regarded as a good result but it just won't be enough for them on this occasion.

And that's it for the opening 45 minutes.

Plenty of chances for Manchester City but they can't find the breakthrough.

Bristol City are clinging on to their WSL status with their fingernails.

Lauren Hemp has Manchester City's best chance of the game.

It's a deep cross and Hemp is all on her own as she throws herself at the ball. Shae Yanez is well placed though and it's saved.

Jess Park tries to do it all on her own now.

Park must have left four players in her wake as she drove into the box but the angle became too acute and the final shot was poor.

I have said it a couple of times,. I would love to see Manchester City be a little bit more patient and probe outside the box.

They are taking shots too early when there are lots of defenders in front of them.

Mary Fowler loses the ball and it falls to Chloe Kelly who takes on the shot first time.

It's spilled by Shae Yanez but the American falls on top of the ball before anyone can pick up the pieces.

Another strike from distance and this time it is Leila Ouahabi.

The ball bobbles up just in front of Shae Yanez but it's still very comfortable.

Most of that is for the stoppage when Khiara Keating and Amalie Thestrup required treatment following their collision in the box.

There's all sorts of percussion reverberating around Ashton Gate as captain Megan Connolly prepares to deliver.

I confidently predicted this would buck the low-scoring trend in the WSL today...
