The circuit is busy now and we've got eight timed efforts on the board, Max Verstappen leading the way with a 1:26.363.

It was largely a good day for Red Bull on Friday but they have yet to make an appearance today, with both cars in the garage.

Top work by the Force India engineers as Sergio Perez's rebuilt Force India is sent on to the circuit. After so little running on Friday, Perez and his team-mate Nico Hulkenberg don't mess about. Hulkenberg posts a 1:27.234 while Perez is up and running with a 1:27.382.

It seems Kimi Raikkonen is a popular driver in Hungary, with some bridges across the roads to the circuit draped in messages of support for the Finn.

"Are Ferrari beginning the sort of mid-season slump that has become a familiar tale in the last three years? Recent F1 history has been a story of stalled development from summer onwards that has seen Ferrari slip inexorably backwards, leading to the mounting frustrations that eventually caused Fernando Alonso to lose faith in the team and leave. It's a bit too early to conclude for now that it is happening again, but after a difficult weekend in Silverstone - rescued when the late-race rain helped Sebastian Vettel catapult from an out-of-touch fifth to a podium - Ferrari were again struggling on Friday in Hungary.

"Vettel could manage only seventh fastest time - with Kimi Raikkonen fifth - and the German had two spins as well.

"'We did not have the best day but there were two or three things that were slowing us down,' Vettel said. 'We were stuck in the garage with a shortage in the system, Kimi had a problem with the front wing and we both could not run as much as we would like this afternoon. There is a lot to clean up but we should be OK on Saturday.'"

The circuit is open and one hour of final practice is under way. Sebastian Vettel had a bit of a frustrating day on Friday with a couple of spins and he is straight out on to the track this morning.

"Nico Rosberg was left trailing by Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in Friday practice - about 0.7secs off on both the medium and the soft tyre.

"The German does not sound too worried, though, hopeful that he will be able to sort the car out on Saturday morning.

"'A bit of a difficult day for me,' Rosberg said. 'I need to improve on my qualifying pace, race pace was very good. I need to work on finding the right balance. Today I had too much understeer but on Saturday I have plenty of time. I'm confident it will be OK.'"

"Force India have identified the suspension problem that caused Sergio Perez's accident in first practice, after missing the second session because they could not be sure what had gone wrong, and have put in place a fix which they are confident will ensure the incident will not happen again.

"Perez, who said the incident was "scary", admits it has put them on the back foot. 'It obviously hurts a lot,' he said. 'We don't have a lot of information from the track or the option compound. I hope we can have a very good FP3 and I still believe we can do a good weekend.'"

"It is baking in Hungary this weekend, with air temperatures in the high 30Cs and track temperatures well over 50C. In those conditions, it is particularly tough fore the drivers who, as Nico Rosberg put it, are more or less sitting on the track.

"Lewis Hamilton said after Friday practice: 'It was really good fun but incredibly hot - hotter than a sauna. It was challenging but I like that. I was enjoying it. I can't express to you how hot it is in this suit, and these underclothes.' How do you deal with that? 'Drink plenty and suck it up. I lost over a kilo just then so it is going to be tough in the race.'

"Temperatures are, though, expected to be a little cooler on Sunday, down to about 27C."

"Lewis Hamilton's love affair with the Hungaroring dates right back to 2007, when he took pole position and victory there on his debut, admittedly after a bit of mutual double-crossing with then-team-mate Fernando Alonso. Since then he has added a further three victories in seven attempts and he already looks well on course to make it five from nine this weekend.

"Looking imperious in Friday practice, Hamilton said afterwards: 'It is so fun to drive - the combination of corners, the up and down, the way the corners go, it's bumpy, it feels old school, really neat and fun. I'm starting to think it might be my favourite track."

Variety is, as they say, the spice of life.

With Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg winning each of the last seven races, a different face on the top step of the podium after Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, would not be unwelcome.

It has mostly been Ferrari or Williams who have challenged the might of Mercedes this year, but could Red Bull prove to be their biggest threat this weekend? And is Hamilton concerned?

"The more the merrier," says Hamilton. "The more battles we have the better we will be."

"It is a measure of how much Red Bull are struggling this year that they have not yet scored a podium finish in 2015. That could be about to change, though, if Friday practice was anything to go by.

"On a track on which a car's strengths are magnified and an engine's weaknesses less critical, Daniil Kvyat - increasingly impressive in the last few races - and Daniel Ricciardo split the Mercedes on headline times and were confident that they could have a good weekend.

"Red Bull were actually quicker than Mercedes on the race-simulation runs - when it was Ricciardo's turn to be the faster Red Bull driver. But the margin was far too big to be representative and the genial Australian was not getting his hopes up. He suspected Mercedes still had a fair bit up their sleeves but was still hopeful Red Bull can be in with a shout of the second row. 'I expect Rosberg to get back in front of us,' Ricciardo said, 'but if we can be the second best team then that would be a really good day. I'm sure we're not half a second in front of Ferrari, but even if we're a tenth in front then I'll take that.'"
