  1. Oh Fernandopublished at 15:48

It's turning into a forgettable weekend for Fernando Alonso. After breaking down in practice yesterday, his McLaren team are making last-minute changes to his car. It seems they've had to take the gearbox out and it's looking unlikely the Spaniard will start qualifying.

Can you do better than a world title coming down the final corner of the final race? Brazil's Felipe Massa thought his victory had done enough to secure the championship - only for Lewis Hamilton to pass Timo Glock in the dying moments and clinch glory.

    Max Verstappen

Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen has shown a maturity beyond his years in a chat with David Coulthard.

Eddie Jordan says the Dutchman can match Sebastian Vettel's four world titles: "Can we see Max doing that? I think he has as good a chance as anyone on that grid. He's that good."

Jordan adds: "He will be driving with Ferrari within two years."

“The championships are both tied up, but there is no sign of a let-up at Mercedes. Team boss Toto Wolff has said that it is important to ‘keep the tension in the system and not relax’ and the team are following his lead.

"The silver cars looked as dominant as ever in Friday and Saturday practice in Brazil - the best part of a second in front of anyone else over one lap, and still half a second up on race-simulation averages.

"That’s a massive margin for one of the shortest tracks on the calendar. The team are trying out new parts aimed at 2016 and it is another reminder - as if one were needed - of the mountains of work needed by their rivals before they can catch up.”

What a moment this was for the legend Ayrton Senna. His first win on home soil finally came after eight attempts in 1991, and boy it didn't come easily.

Not only did his gear box pack up, leaving him with just sixth gear to use, he suffered with a shoulder problem and physical exhaustion. What a champ.

Eddie Jordan tries to push Red Bull boss Christian Horner on their engine for next year. Mr Horner straight bats it with aplomb. He is more committal on Daniil Kvyat's future, saying there is no reason why the Russian won't be a Red Bull driver next year.

“This place has always had an intimate feel - the track winds itself in and out and around a small natural amphitheatre in one of Sao Paulo’s less salubrious districts, and the paddock, the heart of F1 life, reflects that.

"It has expanded a little following changes to the pit and paddock area but it retains a cosy element. It may not be to Bernie Ecclestone’s exacting specifications - although F1’s tsar has always taken a laissez-faire approach to that in Brazil, unlike in other places - but that is no bad thing, despite the unfinished feel.

"Within it, conversations about ongoing political battles bubble away over lunch and the tension is building ahead of qualifying under a big blue sky. If it’s going to rain today, it doesn’t look like affecting the on-track."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff on allowing Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton to race: "We always allow them to race. One day it could end up in a situation that is not pleasant for the team but we will not end it."

I'm liking the boldness of predicting Valtteri Bottas qualifying second. He will have a three-place penalty of course, after an overtake under a red flag yesterday. Use #bbcf1 to get involved.

This was really the birth of the Brazilian GP. Yes, there had been a trial run previously - but what could announce Interlagos on the scene better than hometown hero Emerson Fittipaldi taking the chequered flag?

“Post-sessions on Friday, there was a chorus of ‘no grip’ from the drivers. Jenson Button blamed this on the high pressures Pirelli is still demanding the teams run following the failures at the Belgian Grand Prix.

"‘I’m sure it is the same for everyone with the high pressures we run around here, the pressures just go through the roof,’ Button said. ‘With the high pressures, it is very difficult to do any comparisons because as soon as the tyres overheat, you’re done.’

"Sebastian Vettel added: ‘Everyone is struggling a lot with the tyres, they seem to be quite tricky to work with. The car is moving around quite a lot and sliding a lot and I hope we can improve that for tomorrow. If you see the guy called grip, pass on my number, please. Everyone is more or less in the same boat’.”
