“Given the pace of progress in F1, it was somewhat surprising that the times in second practice on Friday were marginally slower than those last year. But Lewis Hamilton had a simple explanation: ‘I’m pretty certain it is the kerbs. In Turn Two, there is a big kerb. It used to be flat but now you have to have a lift. In Turn Eight there is a big kerb where you used to run over it and now you can’t'."

“Daniel Ricciardo is sticking with the upgraded Renault engine that he used in his Red Bull on Friday. The Australian said the power increase ‘does not look like much’ but insiders say it opens up a development route for Renault for next year’s engine.

"Red Bull will be using that next year, although they have not admitted so publicly yet, with an announcement about exactly how the relationship will continue due at or before the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi in two weeks’ time.

"On Saturday morning, Red Bull bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko met with Renault Sport boss Cyril Abiteboul to discuss the next steps in a relationship which not very long ago both were seeking to terminate for good.”

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were closest, can they make in-roads today?

The race for the world championship may be over, but in Brazil there is pride and positions to play for this weekend.

The 2015 champion Lewis Hamilton has never won in Brazil, while Nico Rosberg will hope to repeat his pole to victory conversion from here last year.

And what about the Brazilians Felipe Massa and Felipe Nasr? Can they give the home support something to cheer about?
