Elsewhere, Esteban Gutierrez has finally got the Haas out of the garage after they gave the car a nose job. Six laps for the Mexican.

And Britain's Jolyon Palmer is doing OK in the Renault. He's fifth quickest.

Right, let's take a glimpse at the timing board.

Sebastian Vettel has decided he wants to be quickest two days on the bounce and has clocked the day's quickest lap of 1:24.940.

That's 0.001 seconds slower than yesterday. Pull your finger out Seb.

He's been around the Barcelona circuit 21 times today.

Daniel Ricciardo is second quickest (27 laps) and Nico Rosberg third (47 laps). In fact, as I type, they've swapped places.

Look at that - up-to-the-second live updates.

There are loads of McLaren fans out there so it's news a few of you will be watching keenly...

MickGaskin10: Please let everything go okay for @alo_oficial and McLaren - Honda today! It would be a shame to lose him

Jon Rayner: I hope McLaren Honda make more gains with engine upgrades at Testing 2, their drivers and F1 needs them fighting up front.

We mentioned the changes in the hierarchy at Honda earlier, with Yusuke Hasegawa succeeding Yasuhisa Arai as the head of their Formula 1 programme ahead of the new season.

Our chief F1 writer Andrew Benson fills in the details for you right here.

Went to testing on Tuesday, made beautiful lap times on Wednesday, and again on Thursday but testing had finished by Friday so I ate crisps and drank lemonade.

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "The Haas team plans to do some pit stop practice later today after it gets the VF-16 out and running on the track. The full tyre-changing rig has been set up in the pit lane.

"Team Principal Guenther Steiner said yesterday he is really pleased with the way the whole crew is gelling and working together, citing the calm and methodical way they worked through the broken front wing problem on Monday."

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man. But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man.

    And so is Lola.

And this Mastercard Lola is almost as iconic as the Kinks hit of the same name, but for all the wrong reasons.

It entered one race, the 1997 Australian GP, and failed to qualify.

Never let that tarnish the good work Lola did for motorsport at their lovely Huntingdon HQ, mind.

But I have to disagree with you here James I'm afraid. The colours are like something Colombia legend Carlos Valderrama wore in the mid-90s.

Mercedes have very much gone for grinding out the laps.

Add Nico Rosberg's 34 to the 156 by Lewis Hamilton yesterday and you've got a lot of laps.

Carlos Sainz was seventh-quickest yesterday with a fastest lap of 1:27.180.

It's Max Vestappen in the Toro Rosso today. I'll be disappointed if the Dutchman doesn't live up to his billing and treat us to a few test overtake manoeuvres?

    I'm joking, obviously.

It'll be interesting to see what Sebastian Vettel gets up to today.

He clocked the fastest time of the day yesterday and completed 69 laps.

He's completed 10 so far this morning and not at any great pace, so Ferrari are obviously trying out a few things.

I feel I must point out that there was never any suggestion that Kimi Raikkonen would be in the seat today - I'm just venting my own, personal anguish at his absence.

  13. The Y250 vortexpublished at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

    Andrew Benson
    Chief F1 writer

“Good morning, Simon. The various rigs you see attached to parts of the cars are all there to measure airflow. Controlling the air around the car is critical to achieving the best performance - and the holy grail is something engineers in F1 call the 'Y250 vortex'.

"This emanates from the nose/front wing area and flows between the front wheels, around the side pods and through the so-called ‘coke-bottle section' between the rear wheels. You can sometimes see it in specific humid conditions at race tracks - and it’s quite beautiful when you do.

"Anyway, the better that is controlled, the more effectively it helps drag air out from the rear floor. This reduces the air pressure under the car and increases downforce in the most efficient way."

Loads of your suggestions for the team colours that get the pulse going. Keep them coming.

I'm kicking off with one close to my heart.

I like my Williams' Daz white with a lick of blue.

    Nice work, Alan.

  16. Who's on track?published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

By my calculations, everyone bar Esteban Gutierrez of Haas has been out on track.

The tweet below would explain why.

Nico Rosberg comfortably ahead on laps - 26 so far - and he also has the fastest lap at 1:26.236.

  17. No Kimi, no partypublished at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

Ferrari have been curiously quiet this morning on social media.

This tweet 45 minutes ago was the last time we heard hide or hair from them.

I was hoping for at least recognition of Kimi Raikkonen's omission today.

(Yes, they're probably just going two days each back-to-back. But I WANT KIMI).

  18. A little bit louderpublished at 08:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2016

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: "We now know how much louder the new power units are with the revised exhaust systems: a mere four decibels.

"Andy Cowell, the managing director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, said that they measured and compared the old and new systems on the engine dyno, and the new one is just 4dB louder."
