“I thought Rosberg's lap would be the high 1 min 35s, but he was a big chunk quicker.”
Not any more. Rosberg sets an all-time track record with 1:35.337 and Hamilton comes in half a second off the pace, but still good enough for P2.
Quick! take a photo!
With 12 times in, Rosberg and Hamilton are in the bottom two spots.
Sergio Perez takes the early top spot, Verstappen, Sainz and the Hulk follow.

“Jolyon Palmer was 18th in free practice 1, 2, 3 and qualifying. So he is nothing if not consistent.”
Lewis Hamilton is back on track and no news on that investigation. We might not get anything until after qualifying.
Carlos Sainz will give us the first time of Q2...
Q2 under way
A handful of cars peel on to the track and we're good to go.

“This is all shaping up to be a battle royale between Hamilton and Rosberg.”
Anyway, the top five from Q1 was:
Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Raikkonen, Bottas

“Yes disappointing Palmer didn’t make it through to Q2, but he is only one tenth of a second off his team-mate Kevin Magnussen, which is better than earlier races.”

"Good effort from Jolyon Palmer. He’s missed the cut and is out in Q1 but on the plus side he is just 0.095secs slower than team-mate Kevin Magnussen, who also misses out. Both drivers have been struggling with oversteer this weekend, but it has been affecting Palmer more than Magnussen. So to be that close to a man known to be fast who has a year’s experience under his belt is some comfort."
Looking back at the Hamilton incident that is under investigation, it all comes down to bollards.
But doesn't everything in life come down to bollards?
When he goes wide at Turn Two, he's not supposed to come back on track but instead should stay wide and re-enter after a bollard. He failed to do it.
Q1 ends
Both Renaults, both Saubers and both Manors are out.
Eliminated are - Magnussen, Palmer, Nasr, Wehrlein, Haryanto and Ericsson.
So, Hamilton basically cut the corner. But he pulled out of the lap anyway - so it's difficult to see anyone getting their pants into too much of a twist.

“I think it will be a fine or reprimand for Hamilton. I can’t see it being a 20-place penalty.”
Daniil Kvyat finds a lap good enough for P10 and that knocks Felipe Nasr into the bottom six.
Currently in the drop zone with two minutes left:
Kvyat, Palmer, Magnussen, Haryanto, Ericsson, Wehrlein.

“That will cause some heart fluttering down at Mercedes to see what happens now.”
