Talk of Pastor Maldonado had me wondering what he is up to lately. Social media doesn't give away much, with his Instagram largely pictures of fruit and motivation messages.

He does appear to have been having a go at motorcycling recently, though...

Joylon Palmer will be back in the Renault this afternoon after handing over the keys to reserve driver Esteban Ocon this morning.

Having one driver swap in season is rare, but there was speculation that a second could happen, with some reports suggesting Ocon could take Palmer's seat.

Palmer, is having none of it, saying: "I don't know where that rumour has come from. It doesn't faze me.

"I have been told categorically by management that everything is fine. I know where I stand, the team knows where we all stand."

“How big a task does Lewis Hamilton face in trying to haul back Nico Rosberg’s points deficit? There are two ways of looking at it - glass half-full or half-empty. Jenson Button summed it up: 'It’s a lot of points to try to get back but we do have 17 races.  That’s a normal season. So anything’s possible and if Nico has a DNF it is 25 points.’"

That's A LOT of green beans.

Clearly, though, all that Nico Rosberg is doing is working.

He has a 43-point lead over Lewis Hamilton in the championship and has been a picture of calm and confidence at every race weekend so far this season.

He's certainly come a long way since racing with sanitary towels inside his helmet...

Missed first practice? Here's a quick summary of what happened.

    • Sebastian Vettel was fastest
    • His Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen second. Both Ferraris on softs.
    • Nico Rosberg third, Lewis Hamilton fourth
    • Max Verstappen impressed on Red Bull debut, finishing P6

    Is B+ a bit harsh?

After all, he did finish P6, just .169s behind his new Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

He's had 90 minutes to get accustomed to the RB12, so maybe he'll have the confidence to push a bit more in FP2

“The first feeling was good and positive," he said after first practice. "I feel at home in this car.

"We took our time to work through our programme and we got everything that was planned done."

If Max Verstappen were still at school - not outlandish given that he is just 18 - then I'd grade his first outing in a Red Bull B+.

It was very impressive, but you just feel he can show even more.

Will he nudge up to an A in second practice?

A very good showing from Max Verstappen in his first Red Bull outing. He finished just .169s shy of his new team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. Decent.

There's the chequered flag and it looks like Sebastian Vettel will finish fastest.

Some bizarre shenanigans as he tries to beat the red light to sneak one more lap in but he doesn't quite make it in time. Cue cameras cutting to him at the pit exit with some marshals standing around him.

"This is a joke," fumes Vettel as a load of Ferrari mechanics rush out to wheel him back.
