All the excitement over Max Verstappen means the shenanigans at the start got overshadowed a bit, but that's a story that's going to run for a while yet.

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are meeting the stewards any minute now after their collision on the first lap.

It was such a bizarre start to the race. There we were, one second relishing a tussle between the Mercedes pair and the next second they were in the gravel.

All this on his Red Bull debut too! Brilliant.

Maybe the strategy call did end Daniel Ricciardo's chances of victory but Max Verstappen still had to hold off a challenge from Kimi Raikkonen.

To keep his cool and not make a mistake with that sort of pressure on him was unbelievable.

Tony Ross:, external Feel sorry for Riccardo. Wrong strategy from team, like Webber before him, he is now No2 driver for Red Bull.

Sarah Huckle:, external One thing that hasn't been said today is how safe F1 is now and lucky both of them (Hamilton and Rosberg) walked away unhurt.

Kevin Allen:, external Drivers of the day Lewis Hamilton and nico rosberg for giving us the best Grand Prix of the year.

  5. Wrong strategy call for Ricciardo?published at 15:14 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

Fourth-placed Daniel Ricciardo blames Red Bull team strategy for denying him a chance of victory.

He says: "It is mixed emotions at the moment. We were leading then we got pulled to a three-stop strategy when in the lead and we then had to pass three cars. That was not the (original) plan.

"In hindsight it was the wrong thing to do and maybe during the race it seemed a good thing to do. To not be on the podium sucks. The puncture at the end was salt in the wounds. Seb (Vettel) and I were fighting hard but there was no contact.

"I don't want to come across as a bad sportsman. Whatever happened on track, Max crossed the line first. Sure, it is every man for himself and I'm bitter, but not at Max, he did what he had to do, but I'm bitter at the situation."

  6. 'We're in shock'published at 15:11 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

Red Bull boss Christian Horner tells Channel 4: "We're in shock as much as you guys. We knew there was a chance when both Mercedes went off in the first lap but what Max has done is unbelievable.

"Max made a two-stop which was right on the limit and it worked beautifully for him. It is fantastic for F1 to have a new winner, a youngster on the top step of the podium at 18. He can't even drink the champagne.

"Occasionally odd results happen here, we saw Pastor Maldonado win a few years ago, but this was pure performance. Max has not put a foot wrong all weekend."

"For us we would have liked to be closer to the front and it didn't work but a great effort today from the team after not a good day yesterday but we did well to recover. But as a sportsman it is a great day for Max and well done to him.

  9. 'We were so close'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

Kimi Raikkonen, who finished second: "I am happy for Max but disappointed for myself. That's racing though. We tried and tried, I was fast and got close but I could not follow close enough through the last corners.

"I tried and tried but it was not enough. After yesterday we would have probably been happy with second and third but after getting so close it is disappointing."

A huge, huge cheer as Max Verstappen walks out onto the podium and climbs on the top step. He towers over Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel but doesn't need the podium to do that. He'll feel 10 feet tall after that drive.
