Design your own F1 helmet
This is actually happening. The finishing touches are being put to my colleague's helmet. Red circles look to be the main theme here.

Jenson Button had a lucky escape at the end of first practice, when a drain cover dislodged by Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes at Ste Devote flew up and smashed his front wing and punctured his front tyre. Oddly, Button said over the radio that he didn’t think he had hit anything. F1 director Charlie Whiting has been out inspecting the problem drain, and will not have forgotten that this is not the first time such an incident has happened at Monaco - Rubens Barrichello’s Williams retired after hitting one at Massenet in 2011.
This was apparently the offending drain cover that caused the late drama in first practice.
Fortunately, the only damage done was to the front wing on Jenson Button's car, and the McLaren's mechanics' lunch plans.
Let's imagine for a couple of hours that you too are racing in Monaco this weekend and have been given the power to design your own helmet.
What would it look like? We'd absolutely love to see your efforts so if you have a pen and paper handy, maybe some crayons, or you are a dab hand on paint your computer, send us your efforts to #bbcf1. , external
My colleague has just raced off to scavenge a pen and paper, so expect his effort on this page shortly. Trust me when I say you can do better.
After crashing into the barriers at Ste Devote early on in first practice, Felipe Massa has had plenty of time to tweet pictures of his lid for this weekend.
The F1 drivers have been given a free pass to change their helmet designs in Monaco and Massa has gone all arty with his effort. S'alright.

If Lewis Hamilton wanted to make a statement to Nico Rosberg about the threat he remains, despite his 43-point deficit, he chose a good way to do it in first practice. Hamilton was scintillating in the first half-hour - driving on another planet from anyone else, well over a second faster than Rosberg. The German finally got down to just 0.1secs away but it was yet more evidence of Hamilton’s amazing natural ability. Rosberg, though, doesn’t have to be worried. He knows in normal circumstances he will be close. And he has that lead. It’s beautifully poised - the weekend and the season.
Welcome back!
We had some drain drama at the end of first practice, as the session was red-flagged with two minutes to go after a cover came loose, puncturing Nico Rosberg's tyre and smashing Jenson Button's front wing.
The welder has been called in, the cover secured in place and we're looking all good to crack on with second practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.
It was the Mercedes show in first practice, more of the same this afternoon?
Drain cover drama at the end of that session!
It's shaping up to be as you were this weekend with Mercedes very much ahead of the pack. At the moment, it is advantage Lewis Hamilton, but we've said that plenty of times before this season...
Anyway, time for a little break now but join us again at 12:30 BST for coverage of second practice, which gets under way at 13:00.
I'll leave you with Andrew Benson's first practice report and, in case you missed it, here's the story on Jules Bianchi's family planning to sue over 'avoidable' death of the late Formula 1 driver last year.
11) Bottas 12) Grosjean 13) Alonso 14) Gutierrez 15) Button 16) Nasr 17) Magnussen 18) Ericsson 19) Massa 20) Palmer 21) Haryanto 22) Wehrlein
1) Hamilton 2) Rosberg 3) Vettel 4) Ricciardo 5) Verstappen 6) Kvyat 7) Hulkenberg 8) Perez 9) Raikkonen 10) Sainz
It seems that the derbis may have been a loose drain cover. Interesting if it was, because whatever it was shattered when Jenson Button went over it. Would a drain cover do that?
With two minutes to go, the session is not going to be restarted and with that Lewis Hamilton finishes the session fastest.
The session is red flagged now as that bit of debris is dealt with.
