The last time fans at Hockenheim were able to celebrate a Michael Schumacher victory was in 2006.
Felipe Massa finished second to complete a Ferrari one-two, while current Ferrari man Kimi Raikkonen was third.
Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, is at the German Grand Prix. He was watching yesterday's practice from the Mercedes garage.
Lewis Hamilton left the stewards a little earlier. He didn't look too concerned as he strolled down the paddock looking at his phone. I'm not the greatest reader of body language, though.
Cazzy4Kimi: It's funny how Hamilton shouldn't be penalised for unsafe release but Rosberg was penalised for team giving info at Silverstone.
Joe Horwood: Is there any leniency if the reprimand would result in a penalty? In football players get away with a lot before the 2nd yellow card.
Still waiting for an official word on Lewis Hamilton's summoning to the stewards.
Has a driver ever been penalised for unsafe release during practice before? I'm struggling to remember a previous incident for a point of reference.
*Of course. I just remembered there's the Kvyat incident Andrew mentioned below. Time for another coffee!
Matt Trechmann: Whether the team or Hamilton make the release call and set the car off, still dangerous to me, but ultimately stewards decision.
Joe Horwood: Seems farcical to reprimand a driver for unsafe release. Should be dealt with at team level. Hamilton will have just gone when told.
Carolaucock: I have seen far worse than what Lewis did and no grid penalty, is this another way of getting Rosberg a win?
Ian James Seal: If he doesn't get a penalty, there'll be complaints from the other teams, especially Haas.

Although the team decides when to release a car from the pits, a driver can be given a reprimand for the incident - and if Hamilton receives one it would be his third of the season and an automatic 10-place grid penalty.
This is the incident in question, which happened pretty early on in final practice.
So could there be more bad luck for Lewis Hamilton round the corner?
He was denied a shot at pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix after a Fernando Alonso spin brought out the yellow flags, and now he is facing a potential 10-place grid penalty following an unsafe release.

Hamilton summoned to stewards over unsafe release. If he gets a reprimand (as Kvyat did in Spa last year), that's a 10-place grid penalty...
Just when you thought this was going to be a straightforward day...

All to play for this afternoon

Sebastian Vettel returns to the pits with a very wobbly front wing. Looks like he attacked the kerbs a bit too vigorously at some point.
