Friday was tough for Lewis Hamilton. He was unhappy with his car and missed half a session with a technical problem.

His issues continued before qualifying on Saturday - he locked his brakes and missed Turn Seven on his fastest lap and ended up eighth fastest.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen's pace, set on a beautifully fluid lap by the Dutchman around the challenging Marina Bay Circuit, suggests Red Bull could - as expected - be a major threat to Mercedes' pace when qualifying starts at 14:00 BST.

Read more from Andrew Benson's final practice reporthere.

Hello! Welcome to our coverage of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Nico Rosberg finished fastest in final practice but Max Verstappen recovered from his run in with Godzilla to go second quickest, just 0.06s behind Rosberg.

It's been a messy weekend so far for Lewis Hamilton and with Sebastian Vettel the master of the circuit in recent years, it promises to be a fascinating unpredictable battle this afternoon.

Disclaimer: not the actual lizard that invaded the Singapore track...

    What is it about Singapore?

Last year, we had the unusual sight of a fan going for a stroll along the track and today a giant lizard decided to get a close up look at the action, spooking Max Verstappen.

It is certainly a venue full of surprises. Could qualifying throw up another one?

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner: "We know Mercedes always have things up their sleeve but a pretty decent session. Hopefully both guys can have a strong qualifying.

On for pole? "I doubt it. We didn't see Lewis' true pace and Nico probably has a couple of tenths in there. We will see what happens."

Just six hundreths of a second between Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen. Close qualifying on the cards? Or can we expect Mercedes to turn up the wick once again?

No-one moans as much as Romain Grojean in F1 these days. Once again, he is far from happy with the handling of his Haas.

"This is the worst car I have driven for a long, long time," he says.

Doesn't look like Lewis Hamilton is going to give it another go, so P8 it will be as the chequered flag is waved.

Lewis Hamilton is back out on a used set of ultrasofts and, with four minutes to go, he has the time to sneak in another lap to try and improve his P8 time.

"Something wrong with the throttle," says Jolyon Palmer. "I can drive but I am struggling with low rev."

Sebastian Vettel can only manage P5 on his ultrasoft run. He's won four of the previous five races in Singapore but looks like he might struggle to add another win tomorrow.

A messy final sector hampers Kimi Raikkonen as he goes third quickest, 0.5s away from Rosberg's time.
