  8. Hamilton's 'very trying weekend'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Lewis Hamilton, who now trails Nico Rosberg by eight points in the world championship, tells Sky Sports he couldn't have done better than finish third because of his brake issues.

"It was a very trying weekend but these ones come along sometimes and you just have to take it on the chin," he says.

Asked about his complaints over team radio about Mercedes' strategy calls, he says it didn't make a difference to the result but adds: "On lap 14 they pitted me on the same lap as Daniel and that didn't make sense to me."

Asked how tough it was to now be behind Rosberg, he replies: "It's not as tough as you think, I don't know why. I haven't been in this position at this stage of the season."

AngelinedeH: Hamilton is such a bad loser! Maybe some non podium finishes will help him to appreciate it more.

Rssot: Shame we never see Nico Rosberg as gracious in defeat as Lewis Hamilton.

Marcus P Knight: Textbook controlled drive from #NR6, external to take lead. Lukewarm F1 GP from #LH44, external. Imagine UK headlines if the boot was on other foot!

No fireworks for Ferrari after a bad strategy call cost Kimi Raikkonen a real chance of finishing third.

Still, there was something to celebrate - Sebastian Vettel's fantastic drive. The German, a four-time winner in Singapore, climbed from dead last to finish fifth.

  18. I'm still in the fight - Hamiltonpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Third-placed Lewis Hamilton: "Definitely not [a great weekend] but firstly big congratulations to Nico - he drove fantastically all weekend.

"This weekend has been a tricky one for me but I'm just happy to get on the podium and get some points for the team.

"The brakes were way overheating so I had to slow down. Once I did my second or third stop we managed to sort it out."

Martin Brundle mentions that Hamilton is now eight points behind Mercedes team-mate Rosberg:

"It's a lot different to when I was here last year but I'm still in the fight and I'm going to give it everything I've got."

Daniel Ricciardo refrained from drinking champagne from his boot. Given the fact he has just had to do a two hour race in those boots in that heat and humidity, it's a very wise choice.

Daniel Ricciardo, who finished second: "We have come close on numerous occasions but I am not disappointed. We gave it a shot, we got with half a second. It was close.

"As soon as did a pit stop we thought Nico would come in. I pushed hard on the tyres."
