This is a fairly settled and processional race. Rosberg looks like he is going to stretch away from Verstappen. Hamilton has this bunch of cars he is approaching.

I think as Lewis Hamilton just passed his pit board the number lap "40" will have stood out like a sore thumb as it was that lap in Malaysia his power failed. He was outspoken in Austin by saying he was nervous about the reliability of his car.

We are now at the stage in the race where his power unit failed in Malaysia. Is he still nervous about the car? Is this Lewis Hamilton winning the grand prix at the slowest possible speed? I think so.

Out in front, Lewis Hamilton leads Nico Rosberg by 3.8 seconds but the two Mercedes are approaching a bit of traffic.

  7. Lap 41/71published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

Thirty laps to go and the race has settled into a bit of a procession. Apart from the first lap, we've not really had the drama we perhaps hoped for.

Sebastian Vettel is getting closer to Kimi Raikkonen, who is fifth. There's 1.1 seconds between the two.

The only other battle on the track as close as the Sergio Perez-Felipe Massa one is between the McLarens. Jenson Button, currently 16th, is 0.8 seconds behind Fernando Alonso.

It does seem a shame these huge Mexican fans haven't been treated to a cracker just yet, including last year as well.

Sergio Perez has been having a right old ding dong with Felipe Massa. He's no doubt got sick of the sight of the rear wing of the Williams and so he has another stab at making a pass down into Turn One. No dice.

Verstappen was 4/10ths quicker than Rosberg on the last lap, but Rosberg is half a second up on the Dutchman over the first sector of this one. You really get the impression Mercedes can control things as they wish at this stage.

  15. Lap 37/71published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

Nico Rosberg has just put the afterburners on. He does a 1:23.201 and that's almost a second quicker than Lewis Hamilton. The gap is down to 3.9s.

Everything is going to plan for Lewis Hamilton. He is keeping the gap between himself and Nico Rosberg at 4.8 seconds, but that also suits Rosberg, who just needs to finish second in the remaining races to win the title.

However, Max Verstappen's pace will be making Rosberg nervous...

  18. Lap 35/71published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

Max Verstappen is told by his team: "Make sure you keep it clean behind Rosberg for the moment, Max. You never know what might happen later."

Elsewhere, the McLarens are knocking about towards the back of the field. Fernando Alonso is 15th with Jenson Button 16th. Alonso is struggling to make up ground on Carlos Sainz, who is 1.6 seconds up the road.

Rosberg will not want to be distracted by anything Verstappen can throw at him.

It's genuine pace form Max Verstappen. The only decent lap that Rosberg has hooked up all weekend was that final lap of Q3. For the rest he was adrift, certainly of team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The Red Bulls on Friday were much more competitive than Rosberg, and that is showing now.
