Almost a coming together involving Max Verstappen and Kevin Magnussen. The former thinks about squeezing through at Rascasse but bails at the last minute as Magnussen leaves him little to no room.

Meanwhile, the two Mercedes are back in the pits. Not much long-running going on for them with 15 minutes to go.

Every single car is out on the track at the moment apart from out-of-practice duo of Jolyon Palmer and Lance Stroll.

A busy circuit is frustrating Lewis Hamilton, who complains of being stuck in traffic.

I think we have seen the end of the qualifying runs with Hamilton down in eighth and Bottas 10th. They are half a second down on their first practice time so evidently not going for outright pace in this session.

Jeremiah Kariuki: As predicted, Lance Stroll takes the honours of fighting with the barriers! Poor boy!

Lance Stroll just lost it at Casino Square and slid into the barriers.

The front wing slides off into the distance and the red flag is waved.

Lance Stroll needs a good weekend after a disappointing start to the season so what he doesn't need is to crash in practice.

    He's crashed in practice.

Spanners Ready: Why aren't Mercedes showing their hand?. My guess is that they are very very fast and aren't quite ready to share

Sebastian Vettel does an absolute stonker of a lap, becoming the first driver to dip into the 1:12s in Monaco. It's a 1:12.759 for Vettel in the Ferrari, putting him half a second clear of Daniel Ricciardo.

He does a 1:13.873 to go eighth quickest, while Valtteri Bottas is a tenth of a second down in ninth. Nothing representative yet from the Mercedes pair.

Rob Groom: I'd leave little stickers on the wing mirrors saying "Front runners may be closer than they appear"

Racing Insider: I'd answer any more silly questions about whether I really want to be racing this weekend with the words "Monaco Baby, Yeah!"

Dinesh Pawar: I'd fill Ricciardo's shoe with sticky toffee pudding.. That'll be interesting.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas head back out onto the circuit, ultra-softs on. They are about to crack on with their qualifying simulation laps.
