The pace car is leading the grid away.

It's the job of the pace car to lead the field to the green flag and, generally, this responsibility has fallen to a celebrity or a racing a legend.

Behind the wheel of this year's pace car, which is a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, is actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, star of The Walking Dead and Grey's Anatomy.

In pretty much every year since 1936 it has been tradition for the Indy 500 to be awarded the pace car as a prize, or at least a replica.
