  1. Where's Red Bull?published at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

Hmmm. We've got nine times on the board at the moment, so that means one is missing. The absent name on the timesheet is Max Verstappen.

Red Bull have been out for just four laps so far this morning, with their last appearance a while ago...

Dan: Really excited about the prospect of a competitive Williams once again. Hoping for podiums, maybe a win?

Danny B: What's the odds Merc put in a killer lap just before close of play? Give the others something to think about...

Yes Jolyon, Nico Hulkenberg is having a good morning for he has just set the fastest time of the day so far - a 1:20.505 on supersofts.

In fact, it's not just the fastest time we've seen today but Renault's best effort in testing so far.

F1 journalist Dan Knutson in Barcelona: Problems with the Renault engine cut short Jolyon Palmer’s running time yesterday

“They’re working on a fix at the moment,” he said. “We’re losing a lot of mileage. But on the positive, I think we know the problem and got some fixes on the way. We can’t fix it right now. But for Melbourne we’re pretty sure we can get a solution.”

He completed 53 laps on Thursday.

“I need to get some more,” he said. “It’s just because I’ve had a rubbish week. It’s been 15 laps the first day, like 30 Wednesday, and then I did the Thursday morning and got another 20. Nico Hulkenberg fortunately had a little bit smoother running, so I had another chance [Thursday] afternoon. Hopefully Nico has a good morning Friday and then I can get back in for the afternoon.”

    Interesting prediction Stuart.

Speaking of Lance Stroll, he's back on top of the order as he produces a 1:22.123 on the soft tyre compound.

Quite the contrast to yesterday when he finished bottom of the pile. Evidently a different programme this morning after heavy-fuel runs on Thursday.

Stuart Lusher: Prediction of the day! Stroll will end up relegated to test/reserve and Di Resta to No2 with Massa. Sort money later, results first

Alonso did his time on the ultra-softs. He's back in the pits now after totting up nine laps in the first 45 minutes.

    So far, so good!

Fernando Alonso goes second quickest with a 1:22.731. So that's:

    1) Kimi Raikkonen 1:22.704

    2) Fernando Alonso 1:22.731

One to cut out and keep, McLaren fans.

Matthew Neve: What have we learnt? Mr. Boullier had a future in acting. He's kept his calm persona up superbly.

Stewart: I hope Alonso has his favourite deckchair with him today, if yesterday's #F1Testing, external session is anything to go by.

  13. Raikkonen goes toppublished at 08:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

A familiar sight at the top of the order as Ferrari go quickest. Kimi Raikkonen does a 1:22.704 on a set of unmarked Pirellis.

Darren Hewitt: All we know for sure is that the tyres might be too good. If a Soft can do a full distance then all races will be 1 stop.

Lance Stroll has had a much steadier time after the Canadian rookie’s crash-strewn first week in the car, which left Williams with a severe shortage of spares. The 18-year-old had two trouble-free days on Tuesday and Wednesday and was very much trying not to dwell on what had gone before. “That was last week,” he said. “So that’s last week. What’s news is what’s happening now in the present. I’m looking at what’s happening now in the present. I’m looking at the positive week that we’re having so far. Last week is last week.” Got that..?

More of a concern now is his pace - or lack of it. One senior figure from a team in that general ballpark said that Williams had shown a fair bit of pace this week - or at least one of the drivers had. Felipe Massa looked good, they said; Stroll not so. The times bore this out - both drivers had time in the car on Thursday and Stroll was 0.4secs slower than Massa even though the Brazilian was using the medium tyres and Stroll the softs, which should be more than a second quicker. And that’s around a circuit Stroll knows well. Melbourne, with its low-grip, bumpy surface and walls, will not be an easy baptism.

A couple of cars trade places on the track as Fernando Alonso makes a steady start to the day with a 1:27.874.

Kimi Raikkonen is also out on the track - his first appearance since crashing on Wednesday.

There's a couple more times on the board now as Lance Stroll strolls* to the top with a 1:22.764 on softs.

It's been a good week for Stroll so far after one to forget last week. He's managed plenty of mileage behind the wheel of the Williams, gaining some vital experience.

    * Don't worry, I'm getting awful puns out of my system in pre-season.
