  5. Hamilton needs a Bottas mistakepublished at Lap 51 of 55

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

It seems incredibly difficult for Hamilton to catch Bottas. He is losing too much time through the final sector.

He is going to need a big mistake from Bottas.

We have not mentioned Sebastian Vettel much and he has just been ambling along, miles behind Lewis Hamilton, and miles ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Not the end of the season he was hoping for.

If only that three-race spell in Asia had seen some different results, but two DNFs and a fourth ruined Vettel's season and deprived us fans of a thrilling title showdown.

Felipe Massa, in his last ever race in his Formula 1 career, is ending in the points. He is 10th. A fitting way to end a magnificent career.

    So, some other business....

Nico Hulkenberg is currently going to be the toast of the Renault garage as he is taking the team to sixth in the constructors' championship at the moment after a dodgy Renault pit stop, with a wheel not attached properly, ruined Carlos Sainz's race.

Force India are heading for a double points finish. Sergio Perez is seventh, Esteban Ocon is eighth.

Fernando Alonso is currently in ninth, aiming for his fifth finish in the points in 2017.

Greg Matthews‏: Abu Dhabi shouldn't even be on the F1 calendar, let alone the final race. Every year the race is a non event. The track is terrible and not conducive to racing. Money is the only reason we have it.

HowlingWolfPhoto: I think we should go back to Brazil as the last race, always a great place to celebrate the end of the season.

Had Hamilton been at the front the gap from Mercedes to Ferrari would have been even bigger.

Ten laps to go in the 2017 season. Valtteri Bottas is heading for his first win since July. Only Lewis Hamilton, a huge mistake or a fault with the car can stop him.

Difficulty overtaking is not only exclusive to here in Abu Dhabi, something needs to be done about the cars.

We need to make it easier to follow and these multi-element front wings have something to do with that.

Jennifer Harris: Would love to see final race back in Suzuka but the season is now 6-7 weeks too long for that. How about Kyalami? Right time zone, decent weather.

Patrick McLaughlin: Instead of going to Yas Marina can we just have another round in either Monza, Suzuka or Spa ? This track does not produce good races.

Max Verstappen is still trying to hunt down Kimi Raikkonen in the hunt for fourth place.

In a grand prix of little drama, this was certainly one of the highlights. Well, not if you are a Renault fan.

A disastrous pit stop from Renault leads to the end of Carlos Sainz's race.

  18. Does Abu Dhabi deserve final race?published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

It is so difficult to overtake here. Last year Hamilton was leading the grand prix, lapping two seconds a lap slower than he could, trying to back Rosberg up into the pack and still Rosberg couldn't pass.

I loved it when in it was in Brazil. The two Alonso wins and then Hamilton in 2008.

There is a wonderful atmosphere in Brazil. You can't beat that as a final race but money talks.

What a move from Pascal Wehrlein, who goes the long way around Kevin Magnussen, but the Dane chops back in front of him to regain 13th.

Meanwhile, Brendon Hartley is getting the hurry-up from the mechanics. "Come on, Brendon," the 15th-placed New Zealander is told.
