The drivers are struggling to get heat into their tyres out on the track. Back in the pits, however, the tyres are snug in their heating blankets. Like these stacks for Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari garage.

  2. Postpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Neither Valtteri Bottas nor Robert Kubica stay out long and we are back in a situation where no-one is on the track. The session is meant to go on until 17:00 GMT, so still time for a few more laps if the weather improves.

  3. The Finn might not be finishedpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

We may just not be done yet. The magic words 'on track' have just flashed up on my Formula 1 live timing app and have been placed next to Valtteri Bottas. A bit of snow is no bother for a Finn.

He has already done 94 laps. He wants more.

No Marcus Ericsson in his Sauber on the track today, but he has been meeting fans and talking to the media. Sometimes at the same time.

I love this. Watch Max Verstappen snowing off his skills in wintery conditions.

Obviously it's not from today, but some good snow-related Formula 1 action.

Philip Valentine: To spice up testing, I'd just make all teams publish and broadcast more details about the runs and so on as it happens. Would make it more interesting if we knew the ins and outs of the times on the board and what they were actually doing. Screw secrecy and sandbagging.

Ben Wire: I'd spice it up by equipping each car with a Bond-like machine gun (infrared of course: Health & Safety). Spectators get infrared rifles. If a car records a hit then technology reduces horsepower by 20% for 10 seconds.

Alex Holland-Martin: I wonder if Michael has had his lunch yet with no lunch break also you want a cuppa?

I'm good cheers, but thanks for asking. No lunch just yet, just snacks at the desk. Sports journalism. All about the glamour.

You know what Ben, you talk about health and safety but shining a Bond-like machine gun into the eyes of drivers while they are going at insane speeds? I don't know. I just can't see Liberty Media going for it.

  8. 'A few snowflakes'published at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Driving in the snow is never really a good idea. But at more than 200 miles per hour, it would be absolutely nuts.

    Snow stops play in Barcelona.

Renault's Carlos Sainz is one of those back in the pits, well they are all there. His reason for leaving the track - it's snowing.

Is that going to be a case of snow ends Formula 1 racing early? Not many times can that sentence have been written before.

This is something Robert Kubica would have dreamed of happening for a long time.

This is his first pre-season test in seven years since a life-changing accident in February 2011 at the Ronde di Andora rally, in which his right forearm was partially severed.

Watch him in action by clicking on this link, courtesy of the F1 Twitter account.

David Nutley: I thought it was a given that Kubica was faster than Sirotkin, but unfortunately he's also poorer, hence only getting the reserve seat.

Kubica's 1:21.495 is 0.327 seconds quicker than Sirotkin's 1:21.822. The Russian has also been out on the track today for 52 laps, compared to 31 from Kubica.

  14. Leclerc no longer slowestpublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Charles Leclerc is back in the pits, but it has been a busy day for him with 80 laps under his belt. He has also nudged himself in front of Kevin Magnussen of Haas.

The Dane is now the slowest man of the day, with Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton, who we had expected to see, not hitting the track at all.

  17. Kubica up to seventh and faster than Sirotkinpublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Have Williams made the right choice with their drivers? Robert Kubica has gone faster than Sergey Sirotkin, who was selected over him for the second Williams seat for this season.

Both men have also gone faster than Lance Stroll's best effort yesterday.

All of their best times have come on the softs with Kubica recording a time of 1:21.495 from his 29 laps so far, compared to 1:21.822 from Sirotkin in his 52 laps.

Stroll's best time yesterday was 1:22.142.
