We are hearing from Romain Grosjean on the team radio, and he tries to stick the blame on Marcus Ericsson, saying he hit him.

Maybe he did, but there was then a bit of time before Grosjean ploughed into the wall.

He lost it on traction. He was warming up the tyres. There was a Sauber quite close behind but it appeared he just lost it on traction. Grosjean has gone from hero to absolute zero under the safety car. It was the cold tyres on the rear.

  4. Grosjean crashes during the safety carpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

    Lap 43/51

Grosjean started 20th, was sixth, on course for a huge points total and a fantastic day.

But there he is weaving across the track looking to get some heat in his tyres and bang, straight into the wall.

    Unbelievable.

Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz has just tried to grab a word with Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who was doing an angry walk to the motorhome.

"I've not got any comments to make until I've spoken to them," he said.

Still under the safety car at the moment. What a race.

We have an eight-lap shootout between Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel for the win. Lewis Hamilton in third will be waiting to pounce on any mistakes from those two.

Chris H: Verstappen makes overtaking so difficult, he swerves all over the place. I've got a lot of sympathy for Ricciardo there, trying to predict Verstappen's next move almost impossible.

Benedict Salido: Definitely Max’s fault. Double move in the braking zone.

Ashley Wilkinson: Was that two moves to defend from Verstappen?

Can Valtteri Bottas hold on to this one? He has three wins to his name in his career. Can he hold on for number four?

  10. What's happened so far?published at 14:33 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

    • Red Bulls crash into each other, bringing out a second safety car.
    • Sebastian Vettel had led for 41 laps. A lock up forced Lewis Hamilton to pit earlier than expected but safety car could help Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
    • Safety car also came out on first lap after clashes through the field.
    • Fernando Alonso suffers puncture after being hit by Sergey Sirotkin. Alonso limps back without one of his tyres but manages to get back on circuit. He's currently 12th.
    • Red Bull struggling with battery issues.
    • Sirotkin, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hulkenberg, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo out of the race.

  11. Safety car drama, once againpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

Mercedes have been twice stung by the safety car this season. This time that may have given them a win. We are still under the safety car. Everyone has pitted. Valtteri Bottas leads. Ten laps to go when we restart.

  12. Ricciardo to blame?published at 14:32 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

I think Ricciardo got this one wrong. He was caught in two minds, he is normally so decisive in his overtakes. He just smacked his team-mate out of the race.

We have taken a big, big twist in this race.

  14. Safety carpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

This could be the lifeline Mercedes need. Valtteri Bottas jumps into the pits as there is a safety car. Incredible

  15. Ricciardo crashes into Verstappen - both outpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

    Lap 40/51

Disaster. Absolutely disaster for Red Bull.

"You are going to have to do him again," Daniel Ricciardo's race engineer had said to the Australian just before the incident.

But Ricciardo goes in far too hot, although did Verstappen move twice as Ricciardo attacked?

Verstappen had the inside line, Ricciardo ploughs into the back of him. Wreckage everywhere, both men out.

  16. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

Into lap 40 of 51 we go.

Valtteri Bottas remains out there on original tyres. He will be coming in at some stage. But when?

    Lap 39/51

Bottas could win this race. He was seven tenths quicker than Vettel on the last lap. Bottas has picked up the pace and Hamilton will be reeling if he sees his team-mate emerge ahead of him when he stops.

    Lap 39/51

And now it is Max Verstappen's turn. Ultrasofts for him as well. He rejoins back in front of team-mate Daniel Ricciardo after going in behind him.

That might not make Ricciardo, out of contract at the end of the season, too chuffed with his team.

  19. Postpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 29 April 2018

    Lap 38/51

Daniel Ricciardo is the first Red Bull man in, and it is the ultrasofts he goes back out on. Bottas and Verstappen still to come in.

Ricciardo rejoins in fifth, clear of Kimi Raikkonen.

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

On this track it really depends because there are two sections. The faster section and the castle section, which is what Lewis Hamilton was complaining about. It is so tight there.
