Valtteri Bottas finishes fastest in first practice for the Spanish Grand Prix.

He does his first proper time of the session with 1:21.456, moving him up to 18th and above the two Williams.

Sebastian Vettel improves with 1:19.098. He's third and just under a second off Valtteri Bottas' benchmark time but he also has the super-softs on the Ferrari. Bottas' time came on the slower soft tyre compound.

Robert Kubica posts a personal best with 1:21.510. That's 1.3 seconds quicker than Lance Stroll, who crashed out of the session a little earlier.

Marcus Ericsson has no telemetry. The screens in the garage are not working. If you have no telemetry these days it is pretty hard to go out.
Just the one driver hasn't done anything near a representative time yet - Marcus Ericsson. He's only managed six laps this morning and has been back at base for a fair while now.
Valtteri Bottas is not only eighth tenths quicker than his team-mate but also 1.7 seconds quicker than anyone else. He's nailing it today while everyone else appears to be struggling with the wind and grip levels.

If ever there was a gauntlet thrown down, this is it by Mercedes and particularly Bottas.
Big improvement by Valtteri Bottas as he does a 1:18.148, putting him eight tenths clear of the field.

Both Williams are on the super-soft tyres... and both struggle to keep the car facing the right way on the track.
Robert Kubica spins but manages to avoid any major damage to the car but Lance Stroll is not so lucky as he goes off heavily at Turn 5 and gets stuck in the gravel.
