Some news from yesterday - Formula 1 has received "preliminary approval" from Miami for a Grand Prix to be held in the city from next year.

Miami's city officials voted unanimously on Thursday to enter formal negotiations with F1.

If the event comes off, it would be the first street race in the United States since a Grand Prix in Phoenix, Arizona in 1991.

The Miami event would be the second F1 race in the US, in addition to the Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Finally, Kevin Magnussen - not for the first time - irked one of his fellow drivers, this time appearing to attempt to block off Charles Leclerc at the end of the session.

Magnussen got a reprimand for his action, and a few cross words from Leclerc.

  10. Kubica's returnpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 11 May 2018

First practice also saw the welcome return of Robert Kubica being involved in a grand prix weekend for the first time in almost eight years.

It wasn't exactly a dream return to the track as he struggled with balance in the Williams but did post a solid 1:21.510, 1.2s quicker than his team-mate Lance Stroll, who crashed out.

"It was a difficult session for us, with difficult balance," said Kubica. "I felt comfortable, although it is difficult to be comfortable in such a difficult balanced car to drive. I think I did what I was asked and I am happy with what I delivered.

"For sure, although the balance was difficult I think I managed to drive well."

Valtteri Bottas was fastest, but what else happened in first practice?

Well it didn't go very well for Daniel Ricciardo as he slide off the track and into a wall midway through the session.

Must be frustrating times in the Red Bull garage - if their drivers are not crashing into each other they are still managing to find a way to damage the car by themselves...
