  2. Sirotkin into the barrierpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

"Spun the car and touched the wall at turn six I think," says Sergey Sirotkin. It comes after a puncture earlier on for team-mate Lance Stroll when he clipped the Wall of Champions.

Another day to forget for Williams, with Sirotkin 17th and Stroll 18th.

Sirotkin can carry on his way and get back to the pits, so maybe only limited damage done to his car.

  3. Ericsson facing the wrong waypublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

A spin for Sauber's Marcus Ericsson leaves him in the middle of the track facing the wrong way after locking up his tyres.

Brendon Hartley also goes a bit wide with a wobble at turn one, but like Ericsson, comes off unscathed.

  4. Through the speed trap...published at 16:26 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Brendon Hartley is fighting for his Formula 1 future - and he's certainly trying. Fastest through the speed trap, but still down in 16th overall.

  5. 'Tomorrow will be about the hypersofts'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Tomorrow's going to come down to the pace on the hypersofts. Hamilton's done a great lap on ultrasoft, Vettel not so much, but that's not going to matter by tomorrow. It's the hypersofts that will set the group for Sunday.

Who would you like to see replaced in Formula 1 and why? Who would you replace them with?

Richard Browne: Hartley was a stop gap, surely nobody thought he was going to get anything more than this season?

The Tom: Stoffel really hasn't lived up to any kind of hype, regardless of car performance. Give Norris his seat.

  7. Vettel out againpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Sebastian Vettel is down in ninth, but is fresh for another go, this time with new hypersofts attached.

  8. Who is fastest?published at 16:20 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

This is what we like to see, three different drivers fastest in the three different sectors.

We are seeing why Daniel Ricciardo in his Red Bull didn't want to take a grid penalty this weekend. His team are first and third.

Max Verstappen, leading the way, had been back in the pits with a bit of minor damage, but nothing too serious and he is back on the track.

Max Verstappen is still fastest with a 1:13.302, Lewis Hamilton is second just under nine hundredths behind with a 1:13.390. Daniel Ricciardo third, Valtteri Bottas fourth, Kimi Raikkonen fifth with Sebastian Vettel only ninth (1:15.033)

Who would you like to see replaced in Formula 1 and why? Who would you replace them with?

Euan‏: I don't think any driver is in serious need of replacing. Vandoorne is having a quiet season but to be fair to him he is in a McLaren. Hartley, what we must remember, hadn't driven an F1 car for years before last October.

Gert Siemons: Ricciardo replaces Raikkonen, Stoffel replaces Ricciardo creating a Dutch/Belgian duet.

  11. 'For me, Stroll won't stay at Williams'published at 16:10 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

    Jennie Gow
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter

I had a chat with Lance Stroll yesterday, and he seems really unenthusiastic. Having fished around for information, it seems to me that there's nothing with regard to him re-signing for Williams.

I get the impression that Williams don't really rush their decisions with drivers. But they're in a real pickle. You wish with a team of Williams stature that they could come charging out of the blocks. For me, Lance Stroll will not be there next season.

  12. Minor damage for Verstappen's Red Bullpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

"I definitely see something hanging off the front," reports Max Verstappen, who has picked up a bit of minor damage on his Red Bull after a mechanical issue.

He heads back to the pits, although he still has the fastest time out there.

Another Canadian, Nicholas Latifi, gets another go out on the track. He is slowest of the 19 to have set a time. Nico Hulkenberg hasn't after his earlier stop on track.

  14. Stroll clips the wallpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Canada's Lance Stroll will be desperate to do well in his home race. A slight kiss into the Wall of Champions will not be what he really wanted, but that is what has just happened. It has meant his right rear is now a mess.

Obviously, he joins an illustrious list of drivers to have hit the wall, hence its name.

Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher have hit it in races, Sebastian Vettel among those to have hit it in practice in past years.

Who would you like to see replaced in Formula 1 and why? Who would you replace them with?

Simon Vine‏: I'd like to see George Russell and Lando Norris given a go they both look quick enough.

Rhydian: In all fairness, Vandoorne's had one of the most uncompetitive cars on the track since joining in F1. Much like Wehrlein when he was at Sauber, he's not had the chance to show just how good a driver he can be yet.

  16. Verstappen leads the waypublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Pirelli urged us to keep a look out for Max Verstappen as he was out on the hypersofts.

Hopefully you paid attention as the Dutchman is the fastest now with a 1:13.389.

Anymore of this and it will be hugs and handshakes, not headbutts, from Max later on.

    Half hour to go.

  17. How to win in Montrealpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

You need three things in your car to do well on this circuit. First, you need a good front end because a lot of the corners are chicanes - you're going left and then right, or right and then left, very quickly.

Secondly, you need need a compliant car because it's bumpy like a street circuit, and you need to take a lot of curve into some of the chicanes, particularly at turns three and four, and turns six and seven.

Thirdly, you need good traction, so you can be aggressive on the throttle. The earlier you put the power down, the better speed you get on the exits, and that's so important on the long straights here.

  18. Postpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 8 June 2018

Nicholas Latifi is the man eager to impress in this first session. The FIA Formula 2 Championship driver is down in 18th at the moment with a 1:17.145, taking the place of Sergio Perez in the Force India for this session.

Kevin Magnussen is slowest of those who have set times, but a lap of 1:21.840 suggests a lot of work for Haas to do on his car.

Nico Hulkenberg, who stopped on track earlier on causing a red flag, is the only man to not set a time.
