Lap 56/78
Nico Hulkenberg gets past Carlos Sainz, well, is allowed past by his team-mate as Hulkenberg is on the much fresher tyres. It is good driving from Sainz as Hulkenberg gets past before Sainz shuts the door on Max Verstappen just behind him.
Alonso's retirement now means Verstappen is in 10th and on course for one point after starting right at the back.
Lap 55/78
That is the first race this season with no points for Fernando Alonso. Fifth in Australia, seventh in Bahrain, China and Azerbaijan, eighth in Spain and now a dreaded DNF in Monaco.

Lap 49/78
For a long time Lewis Hamilton has been moaning about his tyres. Time to ditch them for a new set and give it a push? Stick or twist? Safe or gamble?
Lap 49/78
More tyre woe for Lewis Hamilton: "Left front close to zero."
Lap 48/78
And now those Verstappen tyres, which "had gone" are now actually gone. He comes in at the lap 48 mark. He came in at ninth and returns at 11th.
Lap 48/78
Max Verstappen: "My rear tyres are gone. I am just sliding on all four wheels!"
Verstappen has not yet stopped on rapidly fading ultrasofts.
