Keith Rainsford: As race drivers I think Ferrari would make good Colombian footballers. 2 accidents have taken a lot of points off rivals Mercedes lately.

Andrew E: Perfect strategy execution from Ferrari today; new contract announcement for RAI expected imminently.

Alex Lloyd: Another race, another safety car Mercedes don’t pit behind. You’d think they’d start learning their lesson and get fresh boots on every time at this point.

  2. 'Deliberate or incompetence?'published at 16:11 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was an amazing recovery from Lewis. That was the maximum damage limitation we could have achieved.

"Racing incident. It was unfortunate, it is the second time we got taken out, a lot of construction points. To word it in James Allison’s words, ‘do you think it is deliberate or incompetence?’ And that is where it leaves us with a judgement.

"I am not happy. We had a difficult weekend, qualifying on pole and then getting take out on lap one, it puts you on the back foot."

Chris Lord: Low blow from Lewis.... Interesting tactics from them? Lewis thinking Ferrari took him out on purpose? Did they also make him start badly?

Ben Silveston: I personally would have been very happy after that recovery drive. Shame that Lewis Hamilton was still miserable in some ways when being interviewed on the podium. You can't win them all!

Hamilton's dig at Ferrari has got you talking. What's interesting is that Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff appears to be backing his driver on that one...

  4. How they standpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Let's bring you up to date with the drivers' championship standings. Sebastian Vettel's win takes him eight points clear of Lewis Hamilton, with Kimi Raikkonen's 15 points strengthening his grip on third spot.

Max Verstappen drops to sixth after his late retirement. Fernando Alonso finished eighth for the second successive race, having failed to score points in the three grands prix before that.

  5. 'Ferrari not meaning to crash'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Heat of the moment from Lewis Hamilton. He has just seen Sebastian Vettel sneak his home grand prix from under his nose. What he appears to be saying is they used Raikkonen to take him off at Turn Three but that is of course not what happened. Ferrari are aggressive, but they are not meaning to crash.

Lewis Hamilton, who finished second: "This is the greatest race of the year and the greatest crowd, I am sorry I could not bring it home for you today. I will not give up, believe me, I will not give up.

"My team did an amazing job this weekend, we got so much support. Interesting tactics I would say from this side, but we'll do what we can to fight them."

Hamilton very pointedly keeping away from Kimi Raikkonen during the champagne spraying. Martin Brundle has just managed to collar him on the podium for the post-race interview - and the unhappiness is clear in the Briton's words, with a notable dig at Ferrari.

    What a race.

The Ferrari mechanics sprint off down the pit lane as they prepare to celebrate at the end of a remarkable British Grand Prix. A race of two safety cars and Lewis Hamilton going from first to 18th to second, but Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari are the people celebrating.

For a long time it looked like Ferrari may have regretted bringing in both cars during the first safety car when a second followed soon after and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas held the lead until three laps to go before Sebastian Vettel got passed him and held off Hamilton to win here for the second time in his career and for the first time since 2009 when at Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton is not a man to hide his emotions, and it's fair to say he went into the traditional post-race champagne spraying on the podium half-heartedly there.

What a return for Lewis Hamilton. I was at Mercedes' pitwall and everyone was shaking each other's hands. Yes, he is not on the top step but if you look at the difference of what it could have been on the points.

  12. 'I tried'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Kimi Raikkonen accepts he was to blame for the first-lap collision with Lewis Hamilton: "He spun, it was my bad but that is how it goes sometimes. It was not a straightforward race. It was my mistake so that was fine. That is how it goes.

"Without the mistakes and the penalty it would have been better, but I tried."

Look forward to all your comments on that one.

Vettel does a little dance as he makes his way to the podium. His neck must be feeling a lot better after that win.

The German national anthem plays for the victor; the Italian anthem for his team.

  14. 'That was a race I enjoyed'published at 15:51 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Race winner Sebastian Vettel: "The safety car spiced it up. Valtteri was pushing like crazy, I had the advantage on tyres and it was not easy to find a way through but I think I surprised him.

"Thanks to the team for supporting me and also the people in the background because yesterday I was a bit damaged but much better today. I was a bit concerned [about my neck] going into the race but I was fine, probably a bit of adrenaline. The neck held up and that was a race I enjoyed a lot and I think the people enjoyed a lot."

No chat at all between Hamilton and the Ferrari drivers as they join him in the podium room. Interesting.

The general consensus from the Mercedes garage is that it was a fine piece of damage limitation from Lewis Hamilton after a nightmare start. We'll get the views of the top three drivers shortly.

Or at least, we'll get the thoughts of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton has headed away from parc ferme and straight to the podium room to gather his thoughts - and so has not yet done a post-race interview.

  17. 'Outstanding'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 8 July 2018

Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda: "The race was incredible. For Lewis to come from last to second was outstanding."

Mercedes team radio to Lewis Hamilton: "Well done, Lewis. That was an awesome drive from dead last to P2. We live to fight another day."

Reece Young: Let's just point out what a stunningly brilliant drive this is from Lewis Hamilton. The pace he has shown coming from the back is ridiculous.

Brett Mills: Forgive me but in what way is this not an indictment of how uneven Formula 1 is, that a driver who spins off and goes last is able to relatively easily get back to the front of the race and be potentially able to win in?
