Verstappen's car is making some horrible noises there. Anyway, the Virtual Safety Car is returned to its imaginary garage, and we're into the final 30 seconds of FP1...
Max Verstappen has a gearbox issue, and has pulled over to the side of the track. The Virtual Safety Car is deployed once more. A hydraulics issue, it would seem. Verstappen exits the car, and looks for a gap in the pit wall to get himself to safety. A steward opens a gap in the fence, and the Dutchman climbs through athletically.
Pierre Gasly, struggling for pace and down in 12th in the Toro Rosso, is trying to work out why he can't get any speed going. The team suggest over the radio that the wind is changing direction, making him slower on the straights.
Dan Alderson: Grosjean making sure he gets involved with International Kissing Day by French kissing the barrier!
More of a Glasgow kiss, I'd say, Dan...
Jacqui Baker-Stubbs: Romain Grosjean hit the drainage grate and spun out. Completely not his fault. Would be interested to know who paid for that? I remember seeing Charlie Whiting trying to fix it.
Nice to see Fernando Alonso out on the track putting some laps in, although he is still well behind the rest of the field as he builds up some speed. He's currently 4.355 seconds off Lewis Hamilton's fastest time. Just under 15 minutes to go.
Perfect weekends
Chris Marsh: My perfect weekend starts with a quiet evening in with my wife (It is international kissing day). Then quality time with my children tomorrow morning, including being beaten in a 5k run by my five year old, Quali, England win 3-0 then to Silverstone to watch Lewis win the race.
I genuinely didn't know International Kissing Day was a thing. But it is. If you are going to spend all day kissing, folks, just make sure you have a good supply of lip salve.

"Max Verstappen's suspension is in bits, so he's not going anywhere at the moment."
Kimi Raikkonen spins on to the grass at Brooklands - he just lost in on the corner there, but is able to cut across and rejoin the track at Luffield, the next corner.

With the Virtual Safety car now having ended, Lewis Hamilton takes back the honours for the fastest time, setting a time of 1:27.487 - he's 0.367 seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas.

Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra
"Confidence makes a big difference for a Formula One driver. Grosjean getting his fourth place in Austria was huge for him. It was not only points, it was Haas' best ever result on Formula One. He would have arrived here wiyth a spring in his step.
"As soon as you don't believe in yourself in F1, you're in for a struggle. It's an incident that's caused by the push of a button. The error is not closing the DRS. But it's another incident. It shouldn't affect him in terms of his driving skill. It's the push of a button."
Just what Romain Grosjean didn't need. It seemed as if his season was turning after he finally picked up his first 12 points of the season in Austria.
Grosjean took a huge spin there as he went into the corner, and went straight through the gravel trip. Jolyon Palmer, on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, says it's because he went into the corner with the DRS open. "There was a huge amount of downforce missing, and that's the result," Palmer says. Grosjean looks utterly crestfallen. However, the damage looks restricted to the front of the car.
Romain Grosjean goes into the wall at Abbey curve backwards... Thankfully, he's OK, and he gets out of the car. The car... the car is not OK. It's a crumpled heap. The Virtual Safety Car is deployed.
Another flying lap from Bottas edges him further clear of his Mercedes team-mate...

Lewis Hamilton is out on the soft tyres too, but can't quite match Bottas - putting in a time of 1:28.153, which is 0.010 seconds slower.

Valtteri Bottas has come here exceptionally hungry. He just wants some decent luck. He was so emotional after the last race in Austria. He's come here and had a couple of days to reflect on it, he's spent some time with his wife, and now he's in the zone again. He would dearly love to rain on Lerwis Hamilton's parade by taking the win at Silverstone. There's not the horrible animosity between team-mates that there ended up being between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. But clearly Bottas has intentions of staying in this team and showing people he can rival Lewis Hamilton.
The soft tyres have done the trick for Valtteri Bottas. His time of 1:28.143 takes him to the top of the standings, 0.765 seconds quicker than Lewis Hamilton.
Valtteri Bottas is the first of the main runners out on the soft tyres, as the Mercedes man tries to lift himself from fifth position.
McLaren news: Stoffel Vandoorne comes straight back in after a couple of flying laps - which don't really take him anywhere - while Fernando Alonso has not been out to set a time yet.
