    Perfect weekends

And that leads me on to today's talking point. What's your idea of a perfect weekend - sporting or otherwise? Sitting out in the sun with a cold drink, watching your F1 favourites? A game of football with your mates? Perhaps a binge on the box set of Ronnie Corbett's classic 1980s sitcom Sorry? Whatever floats your boat, I'd like to know, please. Tweet in with your perfect weekends, using the hashtag #bbcf1. Thank you.

  4. Hamilton's hopespublished at 09:52 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

Hamilton will try to make history on Sunday by becoming the first driver to win the British Grand Prix six times. He will also be cheering on England against Sweden in that World Cup match tomorrow. Who knows, if time permits, he may even watch a bit of the tennis too?

Hamilton's last Grand Prix win, in France two weekends ago, coincided with a big win for the footballers over Panama. "It's a beautiful Sunday," he said afterwards.

Now you may just have noticed that this is quite a busy weekend of sport. In the football, England face Sweden in a World Cup quarter-final tomorrow, while Kyle Edmund takes on Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon. And the Tour de France gets under way too.

If you're English, as Lewis Hamilton is, it could be a perfect weekend. Maybe. Just maybe.

  6. Lewis feels the lovepublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

The weather is glorious, Silverstone shimmers in the summer heat and the fans are flocking in to worship at the altar of the home hero. And Lewis Hamilton is giving back the love.

His Thursday was spent talking about the unquantifiable lift he gets from racing here. But now it is down to business. On paper, this track, with its straights and long, fast corners should suit the Mercedes down to the ground - literally down to the ground; Silverstone now has the same asphalt as Barcelona and Paul Ricard, where Hamilton dominated.

But Ferrari hope the heat, and some changes to their car, will keep them in the picture. And, as ever, Red Bull are lurking just behind, ready to pounce.

So in a country renowned for self-deprecation, disappointing porridge and scathing Trip Advisor reviews, what's on the menu today?

We've got two practice sessions for you, the first in around 20 minutes, the second at 14:00 BST. And as British Grand Prix weekend gets under way, the challenge for Mercedes is to recover from last weekend's calamities in Austria. Can Lewis Hamilton continue his fabulous record at Silverstone and return to the top of the drivers' championship standings?

  8. It's coming homepublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

More than half of the teams in Formula One have bases within 80 miles of Silverstone. Which means that this weekend, it's all about home comforts.

So enjoy your Three Lions memes and your Gareth Southgate souvenir waistcoats, by all means. But this weekend, F1's coming home. #f1scominghome

Britain. Where the road layouts are confusing and the public transport system is collapsing. And yet, when it comes to motorsport, this is very much where it's at. For now, anyway.

Britain, Britain, Britain. Home of golf jumpers and shaggy dog stories. And yet there's so much more to the country than just Ronnie Corbett.
