None of the midfielders need to fight Lewis Hamilton too hard. They know the Mercedes is too quick for them. It's plain sailing for Hamilton so far.

  14. 'Red Bull are rolling the dice'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Red Bull are rolling the dice. Daniel Ricciardo is the only one starting on the medium tyres. That will give him less pace, but he will be behind the slower drivers to start with.

The assumption is that he'll be on a one-stop strategy. The safety car could be important. If that happens around lap 40, he'll be quids in.

Yesterday, Lewis Hamilton was hunched over his stricken Mercedes looking distraught. Can he salvage a tough weekend today with another sensational drive?

  16. Hockenheim - the home of 'The Shoey'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

Remember this? Two years ago Daniel Ricciardo bolted down champagne from his shoe - the same shoe he had worn throughout a hot, sweaty race at Hockenheim - and 'The Shoey' was born.

No-one is safe from the celebration it seems, with Sir Patrick Stewart, Mark Webber, Lance Stroll and Gerard Butler, among those to have sampled the champagne from Ricciardo's race boots.

The Australian starts 19th today but showed his pace by being the fastest in the opening practice session so who knows? Another Shoey today. It will be some performance from the Australian if he can do that.

What is going to happen today?

Kristine Kirby‏: Rain at the #GermanGP, external would be great for Lewis, shades of Silverstone 2016, but I'd hang back a bit on the start in case we get a silly first corner or two and there are mangled cars that he can than drive around, and hopefully, away from..to podium.

Dennis Ethan: My prediction is a Ferrari 1-2, Red bull on the final podium place.
