Jack Nicholls: I can't figure out why you would pit Vettel at this point during the race.

Jolyon: I think the reason Bottas pitted was just in case Vettel pitted first and got the under cut, he was only a second away so if he pitted first and put on the medium tyres which would be the only other option for Vettel because he has to use two different compounds and started on the softs and the other option is the ultrasoft.

Mercedes jump with Bottas was not to cover Raikkonen but to cover the threat of Sebastian Vettel.

    Verstappen out with engine fault

Marc Sepetowski‏: This is just not good enough for Red Bull. A retirement every race. Two of the best drivers on the grid. The two best overtakers on the grid but not getting the opportunity to show it. Frustrating for the fans who want to see the best week in week out.

By the way, Valtteri Bottas came into the pits two laps after Kimi Raikkonen, so Sebastian Vettel now has a clear run to try to chase down Lewis Hamilton.

Another one gone for Ricciardo. 12th to 16th to seventh. Next target is Kimi Raikkonen, although the Finn has the fresher tyres having only just changed them.

Kimi Raikkonen is first into the pits, just as he was last week. But it is a slow stop, a problem with the left rear and some valuable seconds are wasted.

    • Lewis Hamilton leads from pole
    • Vettel jumps up from fourth to third during the first lap and is pressing on the two Mercedes
    • Charles Leclerc is the first casualty on the second lap after a mechanical fault
    • Max Verstappen is the second driver to retire early after suffering a power problem
    • Daniel Ricciardo is taking no prisoners on the attack, making it up to eighth position from starting in 12th

Last week Lewis Hamilton went from 14th to first, two weeks before that Hamilton went from 18th to second.

Today the man on the charge is Daniel Ricciardo. He had been 16th after an early bang of tyres with Marcus Ericsson and now he is eighth.

Daniel Ricciardo, as we expected, is providing the excitement. He started 12th, went down to 15th, but is now up to ninth with Nico Hulkenberg his latest victim.

With Max Verstappen out, it is up to the Australian to salvage a miserable weekend for Red Bull, at a circuit they were expecting to perform well at.

Mercedes have had some issues at the start of the season, but now what will concern them is that behind them is still a Ferrari but it is Sebastian Vettel who is on a different tyre with a different strategy. The threat is now a lot closer, so what is Mercedes strategy?

They've got a tyre which is less durable but Ferrari arguably have a quicker car and should be able to go for longer with a softer tyre.

Meanwhile at the front, Lewis Hamilton's lead is now up to five seconds. A comfortable Sunday drive for Hamilton so far. Vettel two seconds behind Valtteri Bottas, with Kimi Raikkonen a second and a half further back.

A furious Red Bull boss Christian Horner is clearly unhappy with the Renault engine that has failed in Max Verstappen's car.

Horner tells Sky Sports: "We pay multi-million pounds for a first-class state-of-the-art product and you can see it is well below that."
