Hamilton's lead is 10.6 seconds over Valtteri Bottas and only a Sebastian Vettel-like error from last week is going to deny the Briton his fifth win of the season.

McLaren stayed out and went long and it's paid off for them, both cars in the points. A welcome bit of relief after their tough struggles of recent races. Alonso eighth, Vandoorne ninth.

Finally, on lap 45, Daniel Ricciardo comes in to the pits. He comes back in fifth.

He started 12th, a first lap bang of the tyres with Marcus Ericsson, dropped him to 16th and now he is in the top five, ready to charge on the freshest tyres out there. Kimi Raikkonen will be Ricciardo's target but there is 15 seconds between the pair so a lot of work to be done.

  6. Why did they do a double pit stop?published at 15:15 British Summer Time 29 July 2018

    Lap 45/70

Why did they do a double pit stop? That just puts more pressure on team. They should focus on one driver, Ferrari are known for doing that but it looks like they've fluffed their strategy again.

It is a situation that will have frustrated Sebastian Vettel, as a poor pit stop cost him second place, but at least he has his target in his sights.

And now Sebastian Vettel comes in at lap 39. Lewis Hamilton, who lost the lead when he came in at lap 25, is back in front.

It is a poor stop. A problem with the front left and Valtteri Bottas gets ahead of Vettel.

A terrible moment for Ferrari and Vettel. That is second place gifted back to Mercedes, who are back as they started, holding a one-two. Vettel back down to third.

  15. 'Different tyre strategies are interesting'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 29 July 2018

    Lap 37/70

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Different tyre strategies at the front are more interesting, they throw the race wide open for example here Vettel on a different tyre is making a strategy (at the moment) work and we might get a great race at the end.

That was what made Bahrain interesting, but when they run the fast tyre in qualifying they then are stuck, and then it's a bigger disadvantage for those in sixth, seventh and eighth.

  19. Mercedes will be concernedpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 29 July 2018

    Lap 35/70

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Hamilton's got more pace, he's shown that earlier on. Mercedes know Ferrari's tactic, that's clear for all to see. Vettel is going long and will be put on some quicker tyres for the second half of the race.

When he pits he won't be that far off Hamilton but then he will have the quicker tyres. I think Mercedes will be worried that this win is getting away from them despite a one-two start.

Further back, Raikkonen is on the tail of Bottas who pitted earlier on the soft tyres.
