    Memorable F1 bust-ups

Ilyas Bulsari‏: There's been a few bust ups over the years with probably Michael Schumacher the most vocal (when he went in to the back of DC) and when @alo_oficial, external was at @McLarenF1, external with @LewisHamilton, external with the pit stop in qualifying Ron Dennis grabbing Alonso's trainer.

John Mullins: Best off track bust up had to be Ayrton punching Eddie Irvine after the race in Suzuka. Get the biggest cheer of the afternoon when we heard in the pub.

  3. Ferrari the fastest...published at 13:17 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

The rain of Friday and Saturday has gone, although its effect on the grassy, wooded car parks remains.

The grandstands are packed with Ferrari-adoring tifosi, and a fair few of them had learned where Lewis Hamilton's motorhome was parked not far from the circuit and paid a good-humoured visit last night.

Two red cars are on the front row for the first time since 1994. But the difference is that this year they are actually the fastest things in the place. Surely a Ferrari will win at home for the first time since Fernando Alonso triumphed in a thrilling, flat-out battle with McLaren's Jenson Button back in 2010. Won't it..?

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be an interesting race.

"We’re going to do our best to keep up with the Ferraris so we’ll see what opportunities arise on Turn One. I don’t necessarily dream about it [winning], but I set myself a goal and try to go for it.”

    Memorable F1 bust-ups

Kayleigh: Most memorable bust up has to be David Coulthard and Michael Schumacher Spa 98 doesn’t it? A furious Michael storming through the pit lane, with basically the whole of the Ferrari team trying to get him away. Special mentions - Hamilton/Massa 2011 and Hulk/Mag 2017 with that infamous line.

  11. Who holds sway with Ferrari at Monza?published at 13:00 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Monza

Kimi Raikkonen took his first pole since the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix, and as he said himself afterwards, “it couldn’t be a better place to do it”.

But can he win, even if he is in a position to do it? Or, to put it another way, will he be allowed to?

Team-mate Sebastian Vettel is alongside him on the front row and it’s the German who needs as many points as possible for his title fight with Lewis Hamilton, starting third for Mercedes.

Three races ago in Germany, Ferrari ordered Raikkonen to let his team-mate by after divergent strategies meant Vettel ended up behind.

But on Saturday, Vettel said: “Well, if he’s starting from pole, I guess he’s allowed to win. It’s a long race. Obviously he wants to win, I want to win. Hopefully one of us will win.” As usual, it was an answer but not an answer all at the same time. Only the race will provide that.

A great sight for Ferrari fans.

Maybe not a great sight for Sebastian Vettel, although a lot of you conspiracy theorists on #bbcf1 expect Raikkonen to be told to move over and let Vettel go into the lead and drive off into the distance.

Let's hope that does not happen.

  17. Alonso 'thinks he is a god' - Magnussenpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

McLaren F1 driver Fernando AlonsoImage source, EPA

Kevin Magnussen says Fernando Alonso "thinks he is a god" and that he "can't wait for him to retire" after a clash in Italian Grand Prix qualifying. The two drivers tangled with each other at Monza on Saturday, arriving at the first chicane side by side, ruining both their final laps.

The Danish Haas driver said Alonso's actions were "stupid and unnecessary".

Magnussen added: "He came to me after qualifying and laughed to my face. Just outright disrespectful." Asked for his response to the comments, McLaren's two-time world champion said: "Nothing."

The incident was referred to the stewards, who decided not to take any further action.

"I'm not going to let him pass me, and sacrifice my own lap. No way. I know he thinks he's a god, but no way," said a fuming Magnussen. "I'm going fast, so just cruised past him. But then for some reason he decides to try and accelerate and get close to me, rather than create a gap, as everyone else is doing."
