    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

That's an important move for Sebastian Vettel. Ricciardo is the man who could have forced him further back. He needed to get past the Red Bull man. Now he can make lighter work of the drivers in front of him.

  2. Alonso retirespublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

    Lap 11/53

Alonso, the last Ferrari man to win here back in 2010, is out of this year's race, his last Italian Grand Prix. A sad, sad exit at Monza for the Spaniard.

At Parabolica Daniel Ricciardo goes wide and that enables Sebastian Vettel to get past and into 14th. Ricciardo had picked up minor damage in a tangle with Pierre Gasly moments earlier. Vettel then dances past Charles Leclerc and the German is now 13th.

  6. 'Alonso on the defensive'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

    Lap 8/53

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

Fernando Alonso is in 10th at the moment, but he's going to be on the defensive here. We know McLaren have struggled for straight-line speed all season, and that's what you need on this track.

Jeroen Demmendaal: I guess Hamilton's claims about hate from the Tifosi was a forward-looking statement. Either way, Vettel was at fault.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Vettel will not be happy to know that the Stewards have decided the tiff with Hamilton was just but a racing incident.

    Lap 6/53

Lewis Hamilton will not face any action with that opening lap collision with Sebastian Vettel. Racing incident say the stewards. That's not the last we've heard of it though. Expect some unhappy Vettel quotes later on.

    Lap 6/53

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

What a move from Raikkonen to get the lead back. Hamilton drove clean past him and defended the first and second chicane, but Raikkonen was so late on the brakes and Hamilton didn't respond. That was gritty driving from Raikkonen.

Ferrari had been quicker in practice and qualifying, and to the delight of the home fans, Raikkonen nips back past Hamilton to retake the lead. What a start to this race. We have a race on! Get comfortable, this is going to be great!

  16. Hartley outpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

The first man out is the Toro Rosso of Brendon Hartley. He started 18th and a coming together with Stoffel Vandoorne causes damage to Hartley, and it is bad enough to take him out of there.
