    Jennie Gow
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter

Toto Wolff suggested a couple of races ago that Bottas has said he doesn't want to be referred to as a Mercedes wingman for Lewis Hamilton. But he is definitely a wingman now

This is when Valtteri Bottas has to get his elbows out and see if he can keep Kimi Raikkonen behind. That would help Lewis Hamilton massively.

Hamilton pits. It is a good stop, but he comes back out behind Raikkonen. Bottas, yet to stop, inherits the lead, again trying to slow Raikkonen down so Hamilton, now in third, can take advantage.

  11. 'That was a new engine in Ricciardo's car'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

    Jennie Gow
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter

That was a new engine they put in Ricciardo's car especially for Singapore to give him a chance on a track they favour. That is not going to go down well with the Red Bull team.

So no safety car after that Daniel Ricciardo retirement. Mercedes pair stay out.

"Keep Kimi behind you," is the message to Valtteri Bottas, who again seems to be in the role of wingman, which he has performed well in the past. Delay Raikkonen, let Hamilton go into the pits and come out ahead of Raikkonen is the strategy.

It's incredible, the amount of races Red Bull are retiring with power units with the Renault engine... There's no safety car. It would help Lewis Hamilton massively if there was.

The safety car is standing by. This could be a great time for Mercedes to pit Hamilton if the safety car does come out. It hasn't yet.

  17. Ricciardo outpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 2 September 2018

    Lap 25/53

A new engine had been plonked into Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull, but that engine has failed, with smoke coming out of the back of his car and the Australian has to pull over by the side of the track.

That's the fourth retirement in six races for the Australian, who probably can't wait to get to Renault.

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

If Lewis pits now, I don't think he's done enough to jump Kimi Raikkonen. If he stays out, he'll have fresher tyres towards the end of the race.

Some rain right now would not be good news for Kimi Raikkonen. It would basically give Lewis Hamilton a free pitstop.
